Considering the plot of Pirates 4, it would have been a somewhat hilarious choice for father's day.

GL didn't hold to the comics a hundred percent, but, getting ring from dying Abin Sur, having to prove himself to Sinestro and fight Paralax (also, keep in mind, that the Ring should still have a piece or copy or whatever of Paralax in it from when Abin Sur trapped it there), etc. I don't know a lot about Hector Hammond, but he worked as a character.

I'm not at all familiar with the GL universe (aside from a few Alan Moore stories that probably weren't that canonical) but has the comic drawn some sort of parallel with the One ring?

Especially the sort of craven addiction the One ring seems to have on its' users?

Michael Moore Hates America was not a right-wing nut-job douche of a film that made me want to turn it off after five minutes.

Also, I started Veronica Mars and like it.

I seem to have this habit of starting a series and not seeing it through.

I saw an episode of "Winds of War" and it was awesome but somehow didn't feel like getting dragged down for 14 more hours at 2 hours an episode. So... I started watching Ken Burns documentaries. I am on "Baseball." You know that documentary that has 11 parts of 2 hours each an episode...

I have also gotten hooked on The Hour which - so far - I'm liking better than Mad Men, though I like Mad Men quite a bit.

And for some reason, I can't stop watching Haven even though I want to. I just keep coming back to it each week.

I've only seen the first episode of "The Hour." It was pretty awesome.

I started rewatching the '90s X-MEN cartoon with my kid. Everything seems to be so hyper-real and completely exaggerated. And despite all this, the cartoon is still awesome.

For whatever reason, I never paid much attention to The Good Wife, but I watched the first episode of the series two days ago, and now I'm a third of the way through the first season.

I liked the pilot of the new series Revenge, though I haven't watched the second episode yet.

I think i'll try MLP-FIM 2nd Season.

All 20 episodes of Kolchak The Night Stalker is on NetFlix.

I remember watching this when I was a kid, good goofy stuff, and almost certainly influential on Gygax's D&D (as well as X-Files and similar shows).

It's also funny to see how much the world has changed....$20 is alot of money, and it's clear there were some violence rules for TV back then (no blood, the werewolf, for example, is forever tossing people over sides rather than biting or clawing), as well as no obligatory minorities or hot females.

There have been some good movies around lately. (some rather delayed translations I dug up on the internets)

Rare Exports - Don't research it, just find a copy with English Subtitles and watch it.

Norwegian Ninja - Is it utter genius or complete crap? I'm not sure it is possible to determine which.

Bunraku - It's a little bit like Seven Samurai meets Mighty Boosh.

Attack the Block - Better than Skyline and it's ilk any day.

Started watching "Mobile Suit gundam 0079." It's awesome.

I got around to finishing Highschool of the Dead.

It's unusual to see a work treat the zombies as actually horrific. It does it pretty well. I have a few questions--like "How strong ARE these things". Because they seem to have plot-related strength.

I just wish there wasn't so much fanservice in the show. The character interactions are pretty interesting, though. Just about everyone hits a point where they're about to crack, and it makes me wonder what will happen if someone isn't there to give them a hand the next time it happens.

Watched the pilot episode of ABC's One Upon a Time. Loved it.

The short and totally sweet Pocoyo is now on Netflix! When it comes to kids' shows, it's my favorite - I've managed to get everyone in my family hooked on it. Unfortunately, though, Netflix doesn't have the best episode: Dance Off.

I've had injuries that were better than Skyline was, but after having rented this on a whim last night, I have to second the recommendation for Attack the Block. One of the few monster movies that didn't have me rooting 'Go Critter!" as the victims characters were introduced.

I've been watching a few new TV shows and liking em.

Grimm. I mostly just love that it is a cop drama with reasonable characters. I can't count the number of times they've pleasantly surprised me by doing something that normal people would do that never happens on stupid cop dramas. The supernatural stuff is kind of meh, but the people being written like actual humans is great. I probably would like the show more if it was more like early X-files (normalish cops investigating separate weirdness events) and less like Angel (ongoing supernatural conspiracy plot line).

Awake. I've only seen two episodes obviously, and the first I think was really sad. My wife won't watch it now based upon that initial description, but I like it a lot. Reminds me of Daybreak, which I also liked.

The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. They're not new, but damn if they aren't the hands-down best political journalism on TV right now. Scary but true. Usually a fair bit of overlap on jokes/news covered, but meh. There's enough different that I will watch both.

Hulu tv shows: Booth at the End and Spy. Booth is like a modern Twilight Zone, and Spy was just fun. Dunno if they will be continued (maybe Spy will), but if so, yay.

Caught up with Once Upon A Time and Awake. My wife and I really like both, and Meghan Ory (Red Riding Hood) has joined Naya Rivera (Santana on Glee) on my Celebrity List. They are currently the only two.

So, I watched The Hunger Games a while back, and the Cracked parody article reminded me of a question I have about fan reaction: A lot of people say that the movie carefully avoids showing any actual death or gore. What the hell are they even talking about? People go down with sprays of blood, the archer girl gets an extremely nasty death via tracker jackets and a tight zoom on her corpse, etc.
