Crissa wrote:That's not faith, though. That's trust.
Dictionary.com defines "trust" as
1. reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence.
2. confident expectation of something; hope.
3. confidence in the certainty of future payment for property or goods received; credit: to sell merchandise on trust.
4. a person on whom or thing on which one relies: God is my trust.

(I left out the legalese ones)

...and "faith" as
1. confidence or trust in a person or thing: faith in another's ability.
2. belief that is not based on proof: He had faith that the hypothesis would be substantiated by fact.
3. belief in God or in the doctrines or teachings of religion: the firm faith of the Pilgrims.
4. belief in anything, as a code of ethics, standards of merit, etc.: to be of the same faith with someone concerning honesty.
5. a system of religious belief: the Christian faith; the Jewish faith.
6. the obligation of loyalty or fidelity to a person, promise, engagement, etc.: Failure to appear would be breaking faith.
7. the observance of this obligation; fidelity to one's promise, oath, allegiance, etc.: He was the only one who proved his faith during our recent troubles.

It's a very slippery issue; Faith #1 and 2 are veeeeery similar to Trust #1, 2, 4.

Well, here's something that most people here should be able to relate to...

http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?cat=14

DM of the Rings. It's a webcomic, but it's fairly short compared to some of them. Be sure to read the author's notes at the bottom of each page.

I love DM of the Rings, and I'm a Tolkien fan.

Here's one inspired by the above, but using Star Wars: Episode 1 instead of LotR.

I quite enjoyed that. Thank you!

Heck, thanks to you, I now have the 3.5 Tomb of Horrors. I might try running it with Frank and K classes.

Umm...you're welcome?

I'm not sure how I'm responsible for that, but I'm glad you liked Darth & Droids.

They posted a link to the download on the page where Qui-Gon says this is just like the Tomb of Horrors. So, yes, it's your fault.

Sci-Fi isn't my thing, and I hated episodes 1 & 2 enough to not watch the third, but even so, Darths and Droids is awesome!

I also like that little joke they did with the "In the Darths & Droids universe, Star Wars doesn't exist. The most popular movies are Harry Potter", linking to a single strip of a Harry Potter one, which in turn linked to a Sound of Music one.

I had to stop myself from ruining part of episode III for every in the theater. Obi-Wan fights a cyborg (who's had practically his entire body replaced) armed with lightsabers.

Lightsabers plural, as in one for each of his four hands

Yet Obi-wan dishanded him of two lightsabers at once, and then proceeded to win the fight against this cyborg who was supposed to be a feared duelist who'd proven himself capable of beating Jedi.

Yet Grievous was downright clunky, performing mechanical symmetrical strikes and, well, I felt like shouting out fencing advice to the screen something like, "NOT OVERHEAD YOU IDIOT! Upper-right from in wide at his right side, lower-right at his right leg! He can't block them all!"

That's the core of it, pretty much. The other thing is that both religions claim themselves as monotheist. All the variant vagueries of monolateralism and henotheism and what ever are not universally agreed upon terms. Catholics distinguish themselves from Jews by saying that they are monotheist whilst Jews are henotheist because Jews believe that Dagon and Anubis are real gods that YHWH really fought in single combat and really defeated, while Catholics officially regard them as demons or metaphors or something. But Jews don't accept that distinction and claim that the word monotheist actually refers to what they believe and the Catholics can go suck an entire communion matzo for all they care.

Of course it's not super important. The flame of reason is not impervious and all people of faith are to one degree or another attempting to douse it.

If the Bible/Torah was a book made as a story in the modern day, critics would denounce it as being as full of plot holes, and God is an unrealistic character who can't seem to decide to be happy and loving or crazy and angry.

Nah. God is "conflicted", which means that he's a "complex" character, and therefore superior.

worrying about the realism of jedi fighting style just makes you wonder why they don't get Ash and his boomstick to take out the entire jedi empire.

Some webcomics I rather like:

Looking for Group - An elf, an orc, a minotaur and an undead warlock walk into a bar...

Goblins - The perils and adventures of your typical goblin tribe.

Lackadaisy - Bootlegger cats in 1930s St Louis. No, seriously.

Twokinds - Anime-inspired fantasy and light adventuring. Warning: furries. If you don't like furries, don't click.

I quite enjoy Irritability (it's in the middle of a 200 bad comics thing - of which many are funny as hell - and the early stuff isn't to everyone's taste (very chaotic) - but it's worth it for when it gets good)
I blame Exoth for my warped personality...

http://maze.icomix.com/comicpage/index1.html

That's the only gaming related webcomic I keep open in tabs, but the other ones most definitely deserve honorable mention.

Subnormality: Twisted and brilliant.
http://www.viruscomix.com/subnormality.html

Nobody Scores: like the Garth Meringi's Darkplace of sitcoms.
http://nobodyscores.loosenutstudio.com/

Dresden Codak: the only transhumanist webcomic I know of - excellent art, style and well... all the other stuff as well.
The current plot arc has just about reached it's finale, yet the author has had a nasty accident with his hands... grrrr...
http://dresdencodak.com/index.html

The last webcomic is Kate Beatons - which is linked from the Dresden Codak site (she drew the filler)
