What if you just made a new rogue special ability that allows the use of some spells from the assasin list a few times per day as spelllike abilities. Caster level equal to rogue level.

I was actually working on something similar. With this in mind:

When I say that the Assassin list isn't worth anything - I'm dead serious.

Since the player of the rogue is convinced the Assassin spell is the greatest thing since canned beer, why not allow him to take the ability to cast Assassin spells as one his high level rogue abilities, caster level equal to half his rogue levels.

Also, why not make it where he has access to all the spells of whatever levels he can cast from, and have him spontaneously cast like a bard?

Then maybe the spellcasting ability will be worth something. Not quite Improved Evasion, but better than it was.

While you're at it, why not make "Ranged Legeremain" a high level rogue option, contingent on the Rogue being able to cast Mage Hand?

Then your caster level would still suck. Wands are still a better solution.
