Subdual damage from overexposure

Post by fbmf »

The 3.0 DMG says that in extremely hot/cold temperatures you begin taking subdual damage from overexposure, subject to failing Fort saves or some such.

How does fire/cold resistance/immunity interact with this?
It lists the damage as "subdual damage" not "fire subdual damage", so I wasn't sure, and it came up in the last session.

Thanks.

If you take damage from cold, it is "cold damage". If you take damage from heat, it is "Fire damage".

People with Cold Resistance can run around naked on glaciers.

The new questions is, does Cold Resistance stop shrinkage? :uptosomething:

That I don't know. If you play with 3.5 Endure Elements - then yes. That spell severely sucks - but it does say that you are "comfortable" at -50 degrees F. That means you don't shrink.

I have no idea whether 3rd edition Endure Elements stops shrinkage or not. You don't take any damage - but it doesn't say whether the cold is "uncomfortable" or not. I think it depends upon the special effect of your spells - since it's not game mechanically important. Personally, I would allow it to stop shrinkage. What's the point of even having cold resistance if you can't make it with frost maidens?

Figures it would take magic to get some frigid chick to sleep with ya.
