Yes. I first saw the 90s TV movie as a kid. When I read the novel in college, I was blown away by that part. Both in terms of squick factor and also how entirely unnecessary it all was. Rewatching the TV version, I realized that part where they all group hugged in the sewer was basically them using a very downgraded version of that scene.

It's possible the whole blood brother/hand holding scene at the end was a substitute. I can't remember if that happens in the books, or not.

This made me chuckle.

It did. The mention it early on--they all cut themselves with a sliver of a Coke bottle for it, and the scars disappear and don't reappear until their memories of IT come back.

That was great. I've often felt that the text of The Silmarillion; in whole, or in parts; is not an enjoyable read.

The 2017 reboot of Duck Tales. The cast is a little bloated, but otherwise, I'm loving it. I like that the art style is a throwback to the old Carl Barks comics.

It occurs to me that you could run a pretty satisfying D&D campaign based entirely on adventures from old DuckTales episodes.

Absolutely. The 'Treasure of the Golden Suns' is a 5-part serial that works almost without any changes at all.

Thor Ragnarok was amazing, and exactly what Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 should have been.

I watched Thor last week on Thursday, and I also really enjoyed it. They kept it light - there were several scenes that had the whole audience laughing. Not that it was a comedy, but it did the humor well.

More on Thor - included in spoiler.

Watched Thor, loved it. I think that the extra time spent with the Hulk outside of him smashing things was something I didn't realize I wanted to see before the movie.

Ok, Shokugeki no Souma is... bizarre as fuck, but awesome.

And I commend the protagonist for not stabbing everyone at the fucking school.

Season 2 of The Grand Tour has made its appearance on Amazon Prime Video.
Episode 1. Chaos and Destruction. As expected. ^^

Went to a Psychostick concert tonight. As the headliners, Psychostick performed as expected (would attend again), but out of the absurdly-many opening acts one totally blew me away:

If RAVEN BLACK plays a show near you, GO!!.

Their stage show has a "Dark Carnival" aesthetic which is somewhat similar to Insane Clown Posse -- with a lead singer who looks like an Elseworlds Harley Quinn cosplay. But their music comes out of the metal genre (with classical and broadway sensibilities) here's some shakycam footage of a show they did earlier this year.

The James Franco "(Piz)Za" sketch on SNL last night was pretty ridiculous to watch; it almost convinces the viewer that "Za" is short of lasana instead of pizza. That the sketches punchline is delivered as a casual afterthought, after such an emphatic delivery of the set-up; is what made the delivery land solidly.

I watched the new Godzilla movie from 2017.
Shin Godzilla.
The first . . 20 to 30 minutes or so it is an abomination of a bad movie.
After that? It actually picks itself up and becomes what the 1986 Godzilla Movie was. Not too bad. It is by no means a great or even good movie, but any fan i'd urge to watch it nonetheless.

Just watched Bright. Definitely recommend. Settingwise, it resembles shadowrun with less cyberpunk, thoughthere's implied to be a lot of history to this world (all the races have been around since the dawn of time. There was some battle with the "dark lord" and a prophetic hero thousands of years ago).

Will Smith's character is kinda a jerk, but Jakoby is very likable. Also, warning it doesn't shy away from addressing racism. At all. Overall, it's a very good sort of urban fantasy cop film, and the world is interesting and deep enough that you could set all sorts of stories in it.

I don't know that I could recommend Bright because I learned after seeing it that noted shithead Max Landis was involved, but if you can divorce art from artist, it's a decent popcorn flick.

Black Panther is a fine movie though, aside from all the politics around it.
