Well, turns out you need Windows 10 for Quantum Break. Guess that's a game I'm never playing.

They had a class dedicated to people who love that sort of thing:

It was non-intrusive enough though that I largely ignored CT and zodiacs while Ramza screamed his way across the battlefield taking 6 actions in a row with dual knight swords.

[Weapon Triangle]

What bugs me about it is... I think sword vs spear vs axe isn't an interesting distinction and it restricts character designs in some way.

If it was like "Shield<2h sword/axe/mace < polearm <shield" then you can have pollaxes and hand axes and great axes.

I may be amused if the game itself had any idea what to do with them.

But since bot calculators can and will waste their turns casting Exp3gain, clearly the devs themselves had no idea what they were doing.

I guess some people will enjoy "Final Fantasy: Job Simulator", but I kinda prefer tactics games.

Hand axes in FE can be used at range. The Halberd is super effective against mounted units, and great axes have great base damage in return for crappy acuraccy.

This might have weight if your complaint wasn't against the AI, which even in your precious Fire Emblem games is supremely exploitable. But then again, if you enjoyed "tactics games", you'd know this, and you'd be arguing in bad faith with that little snide remark, making you a lying dumbfuck. Thankfully, with your derail of another thread, we already know you're a lying dumbfuck. Thanks for further evidence.

So Dark Souls III is out, but Final Fantasy XIV has more or less consumed my soul.

Holy shit, that game is just so much better than the rotting corpse that is World of Warcraft right now.

But seriously, I've been playing the crap out of FFXIV lately, what server are you on and what class/job are you playing?

Dark Souls 3 is indeed out out, but I've been holding off on it because I feel it pulling at me like a dark pit, and I've been needing to get stuff done around the house.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Zak S, Zak Smith, Dndwithpornstars, Zak Sabbath. He is a terrible person and a hack at writing and art. His cultural contributions are less than Justin Bieber's, and he's a shitmuffin. Go go gadget Googlebomb!

Dark Souls 3 has too many poisonous swamps.

There are "two" entire areas that are just poisonous swamps.

There are "two" areas that have poisonous swamps to some degree. One of them has a big old chunk of the level made up of it. (Though admittedly, it's a small area).

There is another area that might be entirely poisonous, or just mostly, I'm exploring it now.

Swamps are the sewer levels of Dark Souls. I'm on the Farron's Keep currently.
Still, I'm enjoying the game quite a bit even though it runs like shit on my PC. Can't say I like magic all that much. I'm playing a pyromancer, and I use the sword most of the time. Combustion's range is just so tiny.

Yeah, after going through Blighttown and Sen's Fortress, I'll be happy if I never see another "trudge through sludge" environment again. The poison effect I could endure, but the movement restrictions...

(Incidentally - I didn't see what the big deal was with Sen's Fortress. Sure, platforming challenges aren't fun in 3D, and the early parts are really "proceed to X, die to a SURPRISE SNAKE!, get back to X, kill the SURPRISE SNAKE!, proceed to Y, die to a SURPRISE SNAKE!, repeat ad nauseam", but on the other hand, I managed to make my way deeper with nearly every iteration.

And the walk up to the Iron Golem was blissfully free of enemies. And the walk to the Anor Londo bonfire was pleasant (although I kept an eye out for SURPRISE SNAKE!)

The primary things that make a good platformer are: 1) responsive well executed movement and jumping controls, 2) level design.

Dark Souls doesn't have 1 (Specifically, it's jumping is fucking terrible). It is not a very good platformer.

Sen's Fortress has arbitrary death trap on bridges with snakes shooting at you. If you don't have ranged weapons, there is literally one bridge that is impossible to cross. So if you play Dark Souls as a guy with a sword, you have to pull out your zero damage bow and plink for a 4 minutes to kill some snakes to make an attempt at the death trap run to hopefully not die.

But yeah... In DS 3, you will want to pull out a dagger, and two hand it, and use it's weapon art as a short jump to bypass the otherwise crippling movement restrictions in the 6 swamp sections, 2 oh which are like, the entire goddam level is swamp.

The server is Midgardsormr (the Data Center is Aether) , and my main is a Warrior. I'm already at level 60, with an average ilvl of 209, but I've been wanting to level up something else so I can do more than just tank.

In "Dark Souls 3 Fucks You in the Ass" news. Did you know that the old lady dies in one hit, so if you say, alt tab out of the game to do something else, and then click on the game to get your controller to work again, and your character decides that the click on the game that gave you a functioning controller was also meant to be an R1 attack, then you can just kill her and not have her for the rest of that playthrough. You know, the lady that sells upgrade materials...

Fuck you dark souls.

That's balls, though I've been more concerned with the amount of glitches I keep hearing about.

The original Dark Souls had the same problem. I believe some NPC deaths even broke progression on release.

Do you mean old dear Shrine Handmaid? She respawns, but raises prices each time you kill her. Everyone else drops ashes, which move that character's inventory to the handmaid.

How much does she raise prices?

That's a pretty steep price for alt tabbing in firelink shrine, but it's better than what I thought. You do have to travel somewhere else and travel back though, not just rest at the bonfire to respawn her.

I actually have a character on that same server, also a warrior (albeit only at 50), and I've been leveling pugilist a bit so I can do other than tank, as I've been feeling a tad burnt out on tanking lately.

So. I've been playing XPiratez.

It's a total conversion mod for Open XCom and it is god damn insane.

Notable points...

1) It is god damn huge, the amount of content is bewildering though somehow still engaging.

2) Despite being a home made amateur cludge of various junk based on the engine and assets of original X-Com playing it does in fact give you a pretty solid idea of what we are "missing out on" thanks to the failings of the modern XCom.

3) It's eating a lot more of my time than most computer games do these days.

4) I would NOT have, had you asked me, said that what original X-Com needed was a post apocalyptic sequel that was equal parts X-Com and Macho Women With Guns. Nor would I have suggested that what Macho Women With Guns needed was a ludicrously complex global production management and turn based piracy game with stupidly complex and detailed content, factions and lore based off the X-Com franchise as a whole. But I'll be damned if it doesn't REALLY work.

5) Holy crap. No really. Just holy crap.

Started a trial of FF 14. Liking it so far, but then again I have no MMORPG experience to compare it to. Playing on Primal data center as a Thaumaturgist.

On a related note, I have 2 extra keys for FF 14 I can make a deal on.

Man, I wish you guys were over on Balmung so I could be less bored. Playing alone sucks.

As a side note, Rockstar's automated banning system is still banning people from GTA Online for literally no reason.

Probably because new character creation on Balmung is nigh-undoable because it's already full most of the time, being a legacy server and all.
