Cobra Commander considers soliciting donations to rebuild Cobra Island

$200 donation, or more, rewards you with the services of Storm Shadow for a week.

He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Grabowski's latest project

It's inexplicably for Labyrinth Lord, but once you get past the oldskool stupid of arguing about how many miles wide a kingdom-scale Hex should be to support the campaign math formulae you worked out there are some neat ideas in it.

Cards Against the Multiverse

Can't remember if I've mentioned it or not here, but I wrote a Cards Against Humanity expansion based on Magic. I put it up on The Game Crafter initially, but for a card game that was unreasonably expensive. So I talked to some printers and got a much more reasonable quote and now it's up on Kickstarter!

So, I now we have a couple people who run/own/work at game stores on here. A retailer just contacted me and prompted me to add a new reward level for merchants who want a large number of decks. There is now a merchant level for 100 decks plus custom cards for $930. If people want less or more for their store, I don't want a ton of extra reward levels, so we can work out something else. Just thought I'd edit that in.

Codex: Card Time Strategy campaign now live.

It's remix-master (and noted jerk) Sirlin's take on the whole CCG genre of games: an attempt to replicate the intricacies of CCG deck construction with a finite, non-collectible card set.

Sentinels of the Multiverse: Oblivaeon

I love the game, and the stretch goals so far are crazy. Very hopeful that this will hit $1 million.

Josh, did you back this? I went in for the core set, not too excited about the $200 price tag on the deluxe.

I did back at the deluxe level, although I am quite conflicted about doing so, and may yet downgrade. Hopefully I will have time in the next few days to go into a bit of design analysis of the highs (Patrol Zone) and lows (Cumulative Damage Tracking) of this game. There are a bunch of ideas worth stealing for other games, and more than a few worth mocking and cutting away.

The company line is more or less that the $200+Shipping cost of the deluxe version is not merely a game, but a game plus all the expansions, and that you shouldn't compare it to a game like Sentinels of the Multiverse or Colt Express, but should instead compare it to the cost of a tournament competitive MtG or Hearthstone deck -- or at least to like Dominion + Every Dominion Expansion Ever.

On the one hand, that is crazy-go-nuts as this game will never have the market penetration of MtG or Hearthstone, It's Tech III double crazy, since to have truly 100% full customization each player of the game needs their own Deluxe Set at $200+ a pop. While less than 100% customization may be adequate for the vast majority of players, the materials are still geared towards only 2 players and even with the Deluxe set you will have to either buy or mockup additional playmats to play multiplayer games.

On the other hand, the Deluxe version is going to ship with a lot of material.
  • 7 Starter decks of 10 distinct cards each.
  • 20 Hero cards
  • Each "Hero Deck" for each of those 20 heroes contains doubles of 12 unique cards
  • 6 Codex Binders, 2 Playmats, Chits for upgrades, Gold, Damage Tracking and the KS BS map Cards, cards for specific token units, and various stretch goal stuffs.
That's 330+ distinct pieces of card art that were commissioned specifically for this game, which is a pretty substantial manufacturing cost. Add to that Sirlin's questionable habits of charging for his design and testing work and
then including higher-end components to try to target the "premium" end of the boardgame market to bilk his superfans and I can understand where that price point is coming from.

There's a kickstarter for a Bernie Sanders action figure. $20 for one, $40 for two, or one each Bernie and Hillary. But for $100 you can get six Bernies. I'm not sure what you'd do with six Bernies, but it would be amazing. For $220, you can set up your own recreation of the Last Supper with just Bernies, though.

Army building?

Either way, I need to get one because a Bernie Sanders figure would be perfect standing on the shoulder of my Masterpiece Megatron, commanding the Decepticons towards victory.

Now I want to see a TF alt verse where the Decepticons are rebelling against a GOP administration that built them for war.

Well, at the risk of tangenting, the 'Con's in IDW initially started out as a movement of menial laberors and other lower classes who were revolting against an extremely corrupt senate and highly stratified and racist caste system.

And in the 80's cartoon, the Transformers were built by an evil alien race, who made the Autobots for consumer use and the Decepticons for war, before both of them rebelled and sent the aliens packing. And "evil alien race" is a pretty good descriptor for Republicans.

Yeah, I knew the Cons were made for war. We just need an AU where we make 'em.

There's no option for large numbers of Hillary. I don't have the money for it anyway, but if I did I'd seriously consider buying a six-pack of each, handing them some GI Joe accessories, and making dioramas about the results of the primaries as they happen, with some captions and stuff. For New Hampshire, have Bernie with a sniper rifle taking aim at an unsuspecting Hillary. For South Carolina, a Bernie charging towards a Hillary manning a machine gun. Then for Super Tuesday, get a six-pack of each and have them brawling.

Goddamnit:

I gotta plug this small cute indie RPG in its last day on KS

Laser Kittens

as it's made people people I boardgame with occasionally to frequently. But it's "edited" by COLEEN RILEY (see Feng Shui 2). So I feel dirty doing such a plug.

Yinz all should back Pack o Game Series 2 to unlock all the stretch games.

The first series of clever microgames was far and away the best value in boardgaming last year, so I have a lot of confidence that the 2nd series will also be winners. Even if some of them are not, the current math works out to less than $4 per game - which'll likely drop to $3 each if the final game stretch goal is hit.
