Howl's Moving Castle

Post by Ramnza »

Anyone seen it yet? It rocked right up there with Princess Mononoke & Spirited Away.

Just saw it last night down in Toronto. It's really damn cool and I had to go an hour out of my way to actually go see it, but it was totally worth it. The prince thing was kind of weird though (I doubt that's a spoiler).

**minor spoiler alert**

Things I learned from this movie:

1. A single jerk customer can age you 80 years.
2. Cleaning is pointless, since you'll probably have to move in a few days anyways.
3. If you're totally heartless, many young girls will fall in love with you
"But transportation issues are social-justice issues. The toll of bad transit policies and worse infrastructure—trains and buses that don’t run well and badly serve low-income neighborhoods, vehicular traffic that pollutes the environment and endangers the lives of cyclists and pedestrians—is borne disproportionately by black and brown communities."

If that's true, then why don't more young girls fall in love with me?

Because you do have a heart, it's just two sizes too small.

Have any of you guys ever seen any of Miyazaki's other films?
When she turns old and didn't panic, I about died laughing and had to yell out, this is a good time to panic. Good crowd came out to see it.

I'm a bit of a Miyazaki fan. I loved Princess Mononoke, I loved Spirited Away, and liked both Castle in the Sky and Nausica.

However, the best film of his I've seen to date is Grave of the Fireflies.

That movie is so absolutely heart-wrenchingly good... it's almost Greek in its cathartic tragedy, and shows the truth about the US's firebombing of Tokyo (Hiroshima but only on slow broil instead of nuke).

One of the best anti-war films EVER.

I'm a bit of a Miyazaki fan like Ramnza. I've also seen Nausicaa, Grave of the Fireflies, Porco Roso, Castle in the Sky, The Cat Returns, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. However, I probably wouldn't watch Grave of the Fireflies again simply for the fact Ramnza mentioned - it's too damn depressing

My favourite out of the lot is torn between Mononoke and Nausicaa, but they're all really awesome.

I think you meant Rapa-Nui, not Ramnza.

Grave of the Fireflies broke my heart! I couldn't stopped crying at the end when
his little sister died

Loved Nausica;not all that impressed with Castle in the Sky. Maybe I need to see it again. I first saw Princess Mononoke in Japanese class, which had Chinese subtitles. So, when it came out in English I flipped. I have no earthly idea what's next or if he's working on anything new. Has anyone heard anything?

Watching Grave of the Fireflies is like pounding a nail directly into your eyesocket. It's not boring, it's just really painful.

To this date I am not sure if that makes it great or awful.
