Borderlands

Post by Maxus »

I picked up the new game today and got some time in.

Notes so far:

-I've only tried Athena and Wilhelm so far. Wilhelm appears a beast; he deploys two drones at once; one heals you, the other flies around shooting enemies and yelling "COME GET SOME". Athena's skill is her shield absorbs incoming damage, which is doubled and added to the shield's damage when you throw it. So I can see her fucking up bosses by catching their stronger attacks and throwing them in the boss's teeth.

-The character you play as has more dialogue/responses to NPCs. Who also respond back with individualized dialogue. So that's cool. Athena's voice acting is pretty flat, that's not.

-Gameplay and format is Borderlands 2--badass points and so on--but seems more polished.

-Low-g combat is a thing. You also need oxygen to run around in the no-atmosphere areas of the moon (most of the moon), unless you're Claptrap. The oxygen storage thing also serves as your maneuvering--you vent a bit of air to doublejump or slam to the ground.

-Difficulty seems closer to Borderlands 1 than Borderlands 2. It's not shy about throwing tons of enemies at you right off the bat.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

--The horror of Mario

Zak S, Zak Smith, Dndwithpornstars, Zak Sabbath. He is a terrible person and a hack at writing and art. His cultural contributions are less than Justin Bieber's, and he's a shitmuffin. Go go gadget Googlebomb!

Gonna be perfectly honest here...I never really "got" Borderlands. I say this as a person who totally loves manshooters and manshooting in general (the original Unreal Tournament is one of my favorite games ever, and I still fire up Painkiller from time to time). I just could not at all enjoy Borderlands though, despite literally all of my friends enjoying it (and even buying it for me!).

Borderlands is basicaly Diablo FPS, with all the grinding it entails. I could never put more than two hours into it myself.

Borderlands 1 was grind-heavy, but 2 sorted that out. I could just go through and do sidequests quests and get enough decent gear and XP to not have to go wandering the wastes for enemies to get the levels needed to keep up.

Now, if you want the Legendary guns or the rare drops, that's a different story. Just doing quests and not grinding, you might see one or two natural legendary drops.

I've played Borderlands 2 a ton more than 1, mainly because that's what me and some IRL buddies would play on Xbox live.

I got tired of Borderlands 1 and 2 when I realized I couldn't hit anything more than an arm's reach away, and that my bullets would fly around randomly regardless of where I was aiming. It got old quick. It was also why I stopped playing Fallout 3, was so tired of not being able to hit anything when I wasn't in VATS
