With the release of the last chapter, and on the strength of some very positive reviews, I picked up Fables: The Wolf Among Us on Steam. It's really good. I was particularly impressed by how expressive the facial animations were. It plays like an animated miniseries that I'd watch anyway, except that I also get to make some decisions for the main character.

One moment that I really liked was when I was in a fight (which are mostly QTEs), and I felt like the opposition had had enough, so I passed on an attack prompt... and my character stopped fighting and walked away. It was remarkably organic.

Wolf Among Us is badass. I need to do the last episode, but I wanna get a playthrough set to my ideal and I've been lazy about it
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Some fire emblem characters, also makes Captain Falcon scary.

And then the Palutena reveal

And the Little Mac reveal...

They've been doing some cool shit here.
I just saw the fire emblem reveal, that looks totally sweet.

I really liked the Edolas arc of Fairy Tail, especially Scary Lucy and the Knightwalker fight.

I finally beat Heroine's Quest (sorceress playthrough).

That was awesome.

Heroine's Quest is pretty cool. I did a warrior playthrough a little after the initial release, and I'm planning on trying sorceress in a few months when I remember less of the game.

I also found Dolores. Who I have yet to beat.

But it's a case of me getting good, so, yeah.

Was looking for reference pics to describe from when PCs stumble upon a nest of giant spiders in an upcoming game, found this.

I don't think I've seen a close-up photo of a yellowjacket or spider with this kind of quality before, it was pretty cool seeing all the little bristles and eye variation.

I couldn't wait for mrs. erik's schedule/interest to coincide with mine for watching Orphan Black, so I just started.

I've watched 7 episodes over Orphan Black so far this vacation weekend (vacation over on wednesday), and am loving it. I find myself laughing at various moments which takes me by surprise because it is mostly pretty dark, but funny moments do crop up. I may wind up rewatching them with mrs. erik, since she was playing on her phone next to me as I watched some tonight, and I think I may have piqued her interest.

I have to remind myself often that it is the same actress sometimes since I think of the characters all as their own character. That didn't happen right away, but I noticed that I didn't even perceive them as the same after 3 or so episodes.

So, we just watched Old Boy in Intro to Cinema.

Great movie, very interesting, but the thing that sticks with is the object of horror. Or the object of Oh Dae-su's horror.
The bit where at the end Oh Dae-Su learns that Mi-Do is his daughter.

So... ok, they were completely reprogrammed, re-introduced to one another as strangers, and then coerced into an incestuous relationship.

Except that they'd both been completely reprogrammed. Oh Dae-Su, at least, remembered his daughter, but didn't know Mi-do was her, and Mi-do doesn't know that Oh Dae-su was her father, and, indeed, was so young when he was taken and her mother was killed that she very likely didn't even know her father's name. So while they were obviously wronged by Woo-jin... the incest itself is... difficult to condemn either of them for, because their familial relationship had already been severed and at that point were both consent (ish) adults who thought they were unrelated.

...it'd be like if Luke and Leia had had a sexual relationship in New Hope prior to learning they were brother and sister.

The thing is, the horror doesn't hinge on knowledge or consent, but on biological relation. Don't fuck your immediate relatives is a pretty strong taboo. The idea of being tricked into it is pretty horrifying. It's similar to the principle behind forced incest during various genocides. It's the transgression of the social taboo that's so horrifying.

yeah, i was talking to my instructor after class and she pointed it out as well. So i can see that bit.

I guess my thing is that my mind heavily buys into a "no harm, no foul" philosophy, and tends to discard taboos

First off, Guardians of the Galaxy was preceded by my favorite movie trailer so far this year

Entirely due to this guy: http://www.insidethemagic.net/wp-conten ... illain.png

Second: Did anyone else notice that the villain of Guardians dressed like a Sith and used a god-damned maul as his weapon?

http://static2.hypable.com/wp-content/u ... jpg?4acdb6

SEE?

And that Thanos had some Emperor moments?

I see what you did thar, Marvel. Or, since Disney owns 'em both...

Saw Hercules last night. If you want a "good" movie that makes you think, no need to see it. If you want to see cool fight scenes, lots of action, some really nice partial female nudity, and Dwayne Johnson being awesome, then you should see it.
In this moment, I am Ur-phoric. Not because of any phony god’s blessing. But because, I am enlightened by my int score.

Guardians of the Galaxy was fun. The parts where they were being irreverent or snarky were great; this movie has some great comedy beats to it. The parts where
they found the power of friendship and were willing to die for one another to stop the BBEG
felt a bit forced. At least Rocket Raccoon is there to be a snarky throughout. All that said, the plot was simple and kinda dumb, and none of the villains where all that interesting (Thanos notwithstanding).

Worth watching but I'm not going to go out of my way to own it or anything.
