Guessing: Activision made a large profit on something that they don't want to declare as profit and be taxed on, so they're going to "spend" it on a bunch of nothing which secretly ends up back in their own pockets as "not-profit".
marketing, packaging, infrastructure support, royalties and other costs,
Which means big buildings, new cars, a lot of coke, and an endless stream of hookers, also some cardboard for the game to go in. At least, that's how the music and movie biz does it, no reason for the new kids on the block to be different.

I'm not entirely sure where one would get five hundred million dollars for that kind of stuff. Then again, that does seem to be the only rational reason why they're spending so much money that they'd need a new IP to move 15-16 million units just to break even.

Actually, if they're doing a Springtime For Hitler, that would explain why it won't be on the PC. Because I'm given to understand that an Xbone-to-PC transfer is a compiler option if you want a shitty but functional port.

I've been reading a lot of stuff about fire emblem lately, and this interview was interesting.

So by getting a 500Gb unit second-hand and trading in my DS, 3DS and games (yes, no more pokeymans), a PS3 cost me $50. As in "the same amount as a game costs for it."

So now I can enjoy Disgaea again. ALL THE GRINDING. Magichanging! Dissolving the senate with acid! Bribing the student council so the cafeteria can sell shoes! Oh and also there's Bayonetta, Atelier Rorona/Totori, and a new side-scroller sprite-based game by the same people who did Odin Sphere. I can't remember the name, Dragon Crown or something. Haven't tried it out yet but it looks like it'll be fun.

Dragon Crown is better with company. It's up to 4-player co-op and easier with allies.

Also, be prepared for big bouncing boobs.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

--The horror of Mario

Zak S, Zak Smith, Dndwithpornstars, Zak Sabbath. He is a terrible person and a hack at writing and art. His cultural contributions are less than Justin Bieber's, and he's a shitmuffin. Go go gadget Googlebomb!

I've gotten all joy I was going to get out of XY and B2W2, and there's no joy to get out of BW. And RSE was absolute shit tier - there is nothing they could offer that would make me want to play the remake. And if you don't have pokemon and never got into the Zelda/Mario franchises, what's left for the DS? Roguelikes that let you choose between Very Hard Mode and Fuck You Mode?

Technically I still have SS because I couldn't find the cartridge.

Also, I gave Dragon's Crown a shot. So much fun (so far). Admittedly, sometimes I can't tell what's going on when I have a full team of minions and everything is happening at once. Also not sure if I actually need to save gold up the way I am. Everything is really cheap at the moment, and you get heaps from the actual dungeons + selling loot. But certain D&D-based games have taught me to expect a sudden "NOW YOU SHALL SPEND A MILLION GOLD" moment.

The dwarf is super-fun to play as. He can grab enemies and throw them--up so they land and take falling damage, or throw them at other enemies.

And his aerial moves give the impression that he's propelling himself through the air by the recoil of flexing his muscles.

The Amazon appears to fling herself around using her boobs and arse as a set of counterweights. It's kind of comical.

I suppose I can understand that. It does mean Biteyfangs is an orphan, now.

In other news, as of today, the Nintendo WiFi Connection service for DS, DSi, and Wii games has been shutdown for good.

I didn't erase the data, so the next player might find a delightful surprise actually.

They should release a Dynasty Warriors style game where you just play as Mawile (with the option to Megavolve when your Musou Gauge fills up) and chomp through other pokemonpeople.

That's a pretty ringing endorsement. I'll give it a shot tomorrow, but today the QFI demo's actually installed. First 5 minutes haven't made a significant impression, but the art's pretty good. Some cool flavor descriptions from examining random objects, the main character definitely has a personality.

Yeah, I'm thinking of picking it up. Bastion was amazing, and I don't even normally like that genre of game (or perhaps it's more accurate to say I'm not good at them and have little patience). So they clearly know how to make good games, and the fact that a turn-based thing *is* more my cup of tea, well, that could make it even better.

Add to that the lovely sprites and fluid animations there, it could be loads of fun.

Reading that link made me load up Steam and buy Transistor (+ soundtrack) on the spot.

I likewise played about a half hour of Transistor, and I am super impressed so far. I may go back and buy the soundtrack, even.
