Frank and Malak, my group used to use a factor of armor+body (I think it was 1/3), as an auto-reduction to weapons damage. It worked fine for us, as it resolved the problem of throwing too much dice.

And if it still gets lethal for you, you could adjust the factor.

Also dont get the point. I got games that promote characters caring for the factions in a collective and colaborative way, like in Blood & Honor where they create a clan collectively and each PC is responsible for an aspect of it (spymaster, general, courtier, spiritual leader, etc) but dont und...

Occluded Sun, you seem to imply that the only relationship the rules can have regarding the mood is to get out of its way. Don't you think rules can also encourage or incentivate it ?

If you didn't imply that, sorry. My mistake. ;)

What Dogbert said: Genre emulation. The first factor to make it work is the group being on the same boat and willing to invest in the genre. The second are mechanics that promote the genre. Again, if you want horror, don't throw a system like D&D at them. If you want harsh apocalyptica, don't th...

I Just has The most crazy idea ever: What if the Lady of Pain is an archetype that real people can tap into (knowingly or not), eventually leading to physical manifestations of her in certain periods when certain individuals embody her ethos perfectly ? Now the twist: It just happens that the curren...

Prak, I think the Lady already is a personification of the "city's spirit" in a way - her imagery (rusted blades, cold snub face, elaborate clothes, etc) always screamed victorian london-like decadency, jadedness and corruption to me. In the game our group was planning (that never took fli...

This thread is not about power fantasy really (it was a mistake on my part, if you didn't get it by now). Its about "no losing" in RPGs.

I thought that when "power fantasy" came up in this forum, people meant to say a kind of activity that provides free gratification / without any chance to lose or similar. If thats not the case, ok. Anyway, I think its a fair and interesting question for tabletop roleplaying in general: ar...

Murder and even torture and cannibalism are things you sort of expect to come up in an RPG, rape isn't, and shouldn't be. Wait what? Rape is ths most grievous crime, way over torture, murder and cannibalism? WTF is with modern internets? Its not a problem of modern internets. Its a problem of chris...

Is this what "power fantasy" means ?

So I've heard this term used here sometimes and I think only now I came to realize what it really means. In my recent playthrough of a Total War pc videogame, I realized the Battle AI is so dumb that, as long as I always do manual battle (instead of letting the CPU auto-resolve) I will always win no...

What amuses me is not the fact that Longes and co. don't like GM fiat. What amuses me if that they genuinelly find that games with any dose of it is automatically an objectively bad game that shouldn't exist in the first place. Again, it's as surreal as a comedy movie fan expressing the opinion that...

@Sakuya, Scene-based gameplay is something my group did in the past but in a total accidental way. It happened in our Marvel Heroic game, so I don't know if it is a natural fit for narrative games or what. Anyway, the form that Shinobigami addresses it looks pretty innovative, as it explicitly makes...

Does anyone actually game with dickish GMs ? It seems to me the kind of panic some folks here have regarding GM fiat is akin to phobias (Fiatphobia ? GMphobia ?). In other words, they visualize potential problems whose actual frequency or probability of hapenning is remote at best.

Shadowrun matrix never had much consistence or plausibility to begin with, and 5th edition only worsens it. If internal consistence and coherence is something you value, perhaps Shadowrun is not the right game for you.

Because rules are not world physics axioms, but only a means to resolve conflicts at a gaming table. If you see rpg rules as world axioms, you are indeed a stupid person.
