What makes a rules system fail? I. The logic/math of the rules is bad, i.e. the rules are bad by themselves. This is simply the matter of understanding what the fvck you write (I'm looking at you, Mike Mearls). If you're making a dice-based game and can't calculate probability, you should go home. ...

It's just one roll to see if you succeed immediately, and if you fail, then another roll to see how long it takes you to succeed.
That actually makes sense for some rolls.

Are you familiar with Russian tea? I hear they fill a metal pot with leaves (okay, so maybe only half), then fill the rest in with water. They keep it on a hob all day and dilute it when they drink it. I'd suggest not diluting it if you can take the flavour. Tea in bags is either dried shit or fuck...

Worst house rule I've ever been victim too: having to roll vs. SR 15+spell level or lose the spell (char level 5, and I wasn't forewarned).

Lost my job at a bank, graduated with a master's in particle physics (of which I am immensely proud), currently unemployed and looking for a paying job with enough free time to do research for a PhD. The prospect of a life without analyzing spectra and cleaning pumps is sad.

On weird-shaped worlds. There is a literary example of a mishmash setting with all sorts of crazy world shapes, The Death Gate Cycle by the much-maligned Weiss and Hickman. They have an all-floating-islands world, a hollow world with like four suns inside AND giant trees, an underdark and a water w...

Some exceptions for monsters and NPCs are ok, but the characters readers identify with, and who are acting as the main protagonists, should be molded as PCs, and following PC rules. Exactly. When people read FR novels, they want to play drow with 2 scimitars, and the D&D rules do not deliver. I...

Starmaker, what's your native language? Should it be Portuguese, I might help (at least assuming permission is given). [br]Thank you for the offer, but, unfortunately, we can't help each other - I'm Russian. But the good news are we have permission![br][br] Can you please tell us the term and best ...

Re: Dungeonomicon

Dear Mr Frank and Mr K,[br][br]I haven't really seriously considered running D&D as something beyond a dungeon-crawling minigame, but you have given me renewed hope. Which brings me to the question:[br][br]Since lots of people in my country are unfortunately bereft of the ability to peruse your ...
