Ok it seems your mp are your wisdom score and likely your will save. So lets say around 20 wisdom and 12 will save at level 20. 32 mp's? That literally less than 4 9th level spells. Maybe knowing extra schools/spending slots in knowing extra spells should increase your mp? I was thinking of a versi...

Undead/Witch Hunter archtypes like Hellsing, Solomon Kane

Been looking at the history of different popular archtypes today. Like the gun and sabre witch hunter, that seems to come from Robert E. Howard's Solomon Kane right? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solomon_Kane But was that drawing from older sources? Sword and pistol is a thing, there's highwaymen bu...

In a bunch of GW games, there's a rule that you have to shoot at the closest enemy target (usually followed to a long list of exceptions). This has always annoyed me, but is there a good reason for something like that to be there, instead of letting players have units/models shoot at whatever they ...

Man just found out the Legend of Mana artist Shinichi Kameoka turned Dwarves into "Kirby beards"

From the DS game "Magical Vacation". Their legends say they all woke up with beards, used to be smooth balls.

I think scottish dwarves were a Blizzard thing? Was rereading a Gotrek & Felix book, Gotrek is arrogant in his dwarven supremacy and slurs anything not 1000+ year old fine Dwarf carved architecture, but isn't Scottish. WC3's Scottish accent dwarfs have repeated dialog millions of times to millio...

Re: Dwarfs are hats, Elves are moods

Why has this hit dwarfs harder than those? Though it does strike me that those are mostly marines competing with normal humans, not some other not quite human group which is what the dwarves are. At least to me there's a 'sexlessness' with dorfs in Tolkien and Warhammer and most of D&D. They're...

Is the idea that you have 10 slots to create a character, then you get universal class levels to level up in, and not specific class levels. Kinda like building and advancing a Monster? Do I get a feat/slot per level up? As this is your homebrew you can change things more. Getting that granular with...

Dwarfs are hats, Elves are moods

I saw some thingy about Dwarves declining in popularity in D&D5e, and a general decline across western fantasy RPG stuff. One argument was that D&D has a lot more variety in playable races so of course there's a decline, but it did seem like dwarfs were hit harder. I don't know how gnomes an...

Does dice stuff resolve faster than previous editions? What fans are more divided on are the sweeping changes to the lore, and the lack of support for non-camarilla play currently. A Sabbat guide book theoretically in the works for some time in the future, and the Anarch source book landed with a we...

Flatten sounds like it will have a lot of weird interactions, or is that already baked into the rules for growing and shrinking.

Why is the ogre being kited down on an open field by a party of horse archers an undesirable outcome? I think you're going to end up twisting yourself and whatever you're doing into pretzels trying to make sure Ogres with clubs can stand solo against a bunch of players with an open field to work Na...

Yeah, the "kite an ogre in an open field" example is what I don't want. I think the scenario, goals of parties involved is a big part in avoiding that kind of situation. I mention wargames a lot because it's Kill Team objective grabbing, hidden objectives, each side having different objec...

At longer ranges, it is important that Range & Cover and Fight are two distinct minigames. Range & Cover explicitly ends once characters are within melee range of each other (and Fight kicks in, if no one surrenders). This probably yields a more narratively interesting way to close distance...

Mguy, what I already want is bloodbowl+ killteam - clutter, I repeat stuff from there over and over so a part of this thread is seeing if a new idea pops up. This discussion has reminded me that those games are based around seizing objectives and not only killing. I’ve played games where my mega sho...

What if the fighter is fighting a fighter. If I reaaaally want to make that into a time consuming "player decisions decide the outcomre more than most raw stats" then something like En Garde/Ronin which I've talked about in some other threads if you search those names. If I want the game ...

"The win condition of the Fighter is to reach b2b contact"

Reading Howard stories, Conan (who is definitely more than a D&D fighter, just sayin), kills giants and wizards that have outreaching moves, in one blow once he gets into cutty range. Sometimes he throws his sword, sometimes he throws a chair, but most of the death defiance is getting into range...

Anyone read Gygax and Arneson's books on creating RPG's? Wondering what games they played. I can't make links but I've read about "Braunstein" which assigned roles to dudes in a napoleonic town, then turned into LARPing to the creator's unexpectation. Model UN type stuff seems like the pre...
