You got it right Frank, the charges and penalties are to obscure when to use the powers. Hopefully it causes the powers to be used later rather than earlier. So, what do you do when someone does the math and states "It is always best to use my dailies in situations X, Y and Z and to save them ...

You got it right Frank, the charges and penalties are to obscure when to use the powers. Hopefully it causes the powers to be used later rather than earlier. I only used the word dailies because I think that's what 4e uses and I was using it as an example; personally I'd rather have encounter powers...

Another resource management scheme.

There is a lot of talk about using WoF to change things up and cause people to think about what powers to use. In this thread I want to talk about/present an alternative way to do this. Tie passives to active powers. Make it so that the more powers you have on standby the more passive bonuses you ha...

DnD does the largest bonus only, but not to a large enough extent. They say that bonuses of the same type don't stack. The problem with dnd is that there are too many types.

I think this is more of an argument for limited types of damage more than an argument against resistances. Especially with mechanics that seem to be beaten about lately like the WoF roll. Also this talk about resistances is actually overlooking an important thing; overlap with other characters. If e...

I'd say there's more than two tiers. Not only because there's three books, but... You have people with no bending and no skills. Then you have people with bending or skills. Then you have masters. And then you have crazies like spirits and the Fire Lord and the fulfilled avatar. Even the Avatar sta...

The fact that Aang and Toph are literally on another level from most benders in the world makes me really think this would would be a good candidate for a two tier system. Basically have two different tiers for character creation, and when characters move between the tiers they basically have to bui...

Ah, sorry, didn't get to the part at the bottom. It makes a lot more sense now. I was suggesting stacking powers as in if using one exhausted all positions of that one power then they would be short changing themselves to put it everywhere. Ignore my response then. One question: you seem to frequent...

I think part of what makes winds of fate more interesting is that some times your supposed to want to choose some powers over others. In that case at wills don't seem to have a place in the table, they are almost always inferior. Is there any way to change it so that your looking at different encoun...

I have to throw my vote in for arkham horror with the dunwich and insmouth horror expansions.

With all the different old ones, cards and investigators this game has a ton of re-playability. I also have to give the creators props for how frequently this game has very close endings.

Ironically when people were debating the idea of NPC's being different from PC's I pointed out that final fantasy does that and has the exact same issue (this was before 4e was released). Monsters have mountains of hit points and hit like pansies in Final Fantasy. Looks like the same is true in 4e. ...

I either want the world to be really detailed or not at all. If it's really detailed then it should feel real enough that I feel like I can interact with it. If it's vague I want to be able to create stuff in it. The area in-between is just an uncomfortable area of complete DM fiat, you can't really...

Timeless Crafting: Crafting magic items is no longer linked to available downtime, and having a crafting feat simply allows you to start the next adventure with X amount of custom magic items. I believe Frank has proposed a similar system in the past, and it seems to solve most of the problems with...

Dude, if your gonna have players be killing gods then you might as well stat em up as gods from the get go. Just don't call em gods.

If you want players to attain godhood then your probably better off using two systems. One for the players and one for the gods. When players gain godhood then just have them remake their characters for the god system.

I get the feeling that part of the problem with Mecha games is that if you want to make being in the Mecha significant then it adds a whole fuckton to character creation and combat. Basically it sounds like it makes each character basically making 2 characters, one outside the mecha and one inside, ...

Thymos Game

I've been writing a game for a while. While I'm not satisfied with the amount of classes, options, etc. with it for now I'm going to start adding a lot more soon. The base rules and 2 classes are up though. I'm kind of impatient though and feel like at least putting what I have so far out there. htt...

As to the fluff: I have only read the core book setting fluff. The one or two adventures I have looked at seemed stupidly juvenile. Mecha and Insanity rules.

I have to admit I like the setting Cthulutech creates. I'm not too crazy about the rules though.

Fortunately I have shadow run to use instead for the cyberpunk.

Unfortunately shadow run doesn't have mecha or insanity rules.

Can anyone recommend good insanity and good mecha rulesets?

The conversion work for Arcana Evolved, depending on how much you care, is nonexistant. Unlike pathfinder it can work with with 3.x. I'm not familiar with the tomes. Abilities should be new options. Spring attack is an ability, weapon focus isn't for example. Blast shape or whatever allows you to select who does and who does not get hit by blast effects is an ability. Teleportation is an ability. A lot of spell effects that are d...
