I think it's more the "growing quickly" part. If it starts at 1% of the population and six decades later it's still at 1%, that's not growing quickly. It isn't even growing at all. I thought that 1% was for 2050, not 2011. If we start with 1% in 2011, keeping the same percentage to 2050 w...

Back in first edition we were assured that only one percent of the population of the world was magically active but that it was growing fast. Then in 2nd edition we were assured that... only one percent of the population was magically active but that it was growing fast. And then in 3rd edition we ...

I found it to be pretty much the exact opposite. Adrenaline pump and hand razors, for some unknowable reason, trump shotgun and sniper rifle. Glory is good at the start of the game when she rips everything with her claws. As the game progresses, she gets worse and worse as 10 damage per attack does...

In Shadowrun fiction, it's generally not much of a problem. Street Samurai characters are "bad ass" and are able to contribute to the team's completion of the novel by "being a bad ass." The Street Samurai is able to progress the plot through "knowing the streets" or &...

That's the problem. There's hardly anything _street sam_ as an archetype has to do outside mission. He's a combat specialist. Without taking any other specialty like being groups face and 'sam or groups investigator and 'sam he'll have nothing unique to do outside mission.. Every street sam I witnes...

I get the logic that in order for a hacker to be able to do hacking actions in combat they need to be as effective as street sam/mage actions, that's easy enough. But does the game at all need this 'combat hacker' archetype? I know it was in there for that many years, but so was Captain Chaos before...

The goal of shooting someone in the face is a lot more than just making them a luddite. Taking away someone's bonuses can never be your end game. Your end game has to leave your opponents actually neutralized in some way. -Username17 I think I'm missing something here. Why is the end goal of hacker...

You don't have to be that fiddly to represent differences, however. Remember, the context of this little digression has to do with single shot weapons--I'd argue that having weapons with a one attack per pass stipulation is both more meaningful and less confusing than comparing two SMGs which diffe...

Yeah, that was one more thing SR5 could have improved but chose to worsen.

So, wait, these guys did SR4... which in this review has actually gotten some praise for some of it's changes. But then turned around and completely ruined everything THEY produced earlier? As far as I understand, the current authors are not the people who wrote SR4. Some of them are the same, but ...

Btw, why do SS weapons even exist in the first place? There's absolutely nothing they can do that any other gun can't do better.

Priority slows down chargen in two ways. First, you have to explain the whole system to the player. It's rather easy if you have experienced and math-savvy players, but if they fail to register on any of these, there will be problems. Also it means you are doing the same work twice. Instead of sayin...

I hate priority system with a passion. Again it's a mechanic that achieves exactly the opposite of the stated desired effect (I wonder if it's made on purpose and authors are elaborately fucking everyone over). And in no way is it 'faster' and 'easier' than point buy. I don't even want to imagine ho...

Seriously, there is some devious logic behind Limits - in one move the game just breaks down. I think i wouldn't be able to come up with something like this no matter how much I tried.

Longes wrote:TL;DR: you roll magic+summoning, spirit rolls Force*2. For you spirit's Force acts as a Limit. So, when summoning Force 1 spirit you can't get more than 1 hit, meaning you can't get more than 1 service from him.
And what is the Limit for spirit?

How about lower force spirits/sprites being harder to summon than higher force, because limit = force? And justification given by the devs is that "Lower Force spirits have more trouble staying in the physical world" I never even got to reading magic chapter, so Frank's eventual review wi...

So why not just make Banishment a specialty spell instead of a skill? Why not just get rid of Banishment altogether? I don't think you understand the concept of magic. That's pretty much true as magic doesn't exist. And my concept as good as yours because it describes something that don't exist. To me if you regularly strike stone on stone and it Calls Lightning, that's not magic, that's just a setting with diffe...

Many scientific breakthroughs were made after observing nature - Newton is the worst offender, of course. This makes science the default way of progress - in most cases you just need to repl...

Isn't how easy it is to become a magician in D&D being discussed in this very thread?

And I'm a bit rusty on D&D rules, but don't you need a feat, an ability to cast certain spells and some XP to create a magic item? That makes some top-end items quite rare
