Yeah Cham, if you're going to repeatedly ignore the words that I wrote (and also bolded, and also numbered) in favor of pretending that I just argued about the utility of KSFs, then I'm gonna have to stop humoring you. I'm sorry I worked you up like this, and when you calm down I'm happy to continue...

Cham, this logic is bordering on trolling. If there is a set of n classes in a setting, a given nation can have between 2 and n of those classes. Thus multiple nations can represent the full set of n classes without any one nation being wholly representative of those n classes. And since having more...

@Cham, I saw you write about how players use class-based prompts. I then went back to re-read your comment about how players will not use prompts no matter how little effort is involved, and I assumed that I had missed something. Instead of secretly assuming anything about your position, I tried to ...

It's okay, MGuy. I get that your attempt at being snippy failed because the sentence didn't actually include the proper context that explains why Cham and I disagreed, but you don't need to project your bizarre love of strawmanning onto me. I would also appreciate you not lying about me wanting an a...

Yes, that's why I included (again) a direct attempt to clarify your points . Like, I wrote that post with the full knowledge that I might not understand your comment, and you wrote a 4 paragraph speerg in lieu of just saying "No that is not what I meant". I wrote my request for clarificati...

Oh yeah, remember when my response included a direct attempt to clarify your points ? Remember when you completely ignored that ? Here is where I double-checked whether your issue was "players won't read fluff". In the case my assessment was right, I included a rebuttal. Here is where you ...

I'll one-up you on that recommendation, MGuy. Typically you should be reading the entirety of a comment in order to really engage with it. Try that now: read my entire comment to determine why I have homed in on the particular bold part of Cham's quote. Once you do, you'll realize that I could have ...

Cham, I'm gonna try 1 more time to move this in a productive direction before I give up. Let's go back in time and check out that old comment you keep bolding for us. What else was in it? Firstly, no, they aren't. A normal player doesn't even ask the question, and they definitely won't stick their F...

Firstly, no, they aren't. A normal player doesn't even ask the question, and they definitely won't stick their French Fighter guy in not-France home of the Wizards over not-Britain home of the Fighters, even if not-France does in fact have Fighters. That's the entire point, and I'm not sure how you...

It seems that the topics have changed directions a bit. Cham, I'm currently seeing your concerns as: 1. Players won't read fluff. The point of "riffing off" of a stereotypical culture is not that players read a bunch of paragraphs of fluff for that culture. It's not even that they read 2 s...

If I'm reading you right, Cham, you seem to be implying that a long list of explicit possibilities will implicitly rule out anything not on that list ("there is no blank space for more"). I don't think that's true. A bunch of these fantasy locations have extra space for you to draw a dot a...

Per Mark Rosewater, every set gets "three and a half" unique named mechanics. 2 mechanics if they're complex, or 3 mechanics if they're light. In practice, that isn't quite true. Current track record is: Guilds of Ravnica: 5 Core 2019: 0 Dominaria: 3 Rivals of Ixalan: 5 Ixalan: 4 Hour of D...

Per Mark Rosewater, board states in Llorwyn were too much for most players, mostly because of the number of possible activated abilities players were asked to track. It's not a study, but I'd use that as a benchmark for too much complexity in MtG.

That sounds like a good podcast. I'm definitely going give that a listen.

On the topic of podcasts, I have been enjoying Wolverine: The Long Night. Some of the voice actors are a little too flowery, but it's a fun story.

I think it's more likely that people are expecting Sunkist, which is objectively tastier but also usually more expensive (based on personal anecdote).

On the topic of d20 RNGs, I had some thoughts from messing around with a fantasy heartbreaker. Critical Success & Failure: The people I play with always love the fact that nat20 = critical success & nat1 = critical failure. Whenever it isn't a rule (like with D&D 3e skill checks), they w...

Since we're looking at this from the perspective of a hypothetical game of D&D Except Different, I think it would be better to ask what your average player would engage with best. All I have is anecdotal evidence, but as far as I can tell, players tend to break down into 3 groups at low levels: ...
