It could allow a double save, but that doesn't help the annoyance of two rolls; it merely removes one mechanic... :/ I didn't mean a double save; if you would get a save, you go with sigma's idea and get Evasion/Mettle with 5 over the DC or whatever, and if you wouldn't already get a save you now g...

What if SR, instead of being a new mechanic, was just a flag that said they would get to save on things they otherwise would not? That would make me happier, honestly, it's the double-roll that peeves me. -Crissa That's a good idea, but makes SR meaningless against spells that do allow saves. Maybe...

It's a lot of things for me. I started about 15 years ago, and I can't really tell you any specific reason why other than that the game sounded really interesting. I've always liked fantasy-themed RPGs and I liked the posibilities that TT D&D offered. As for now, I still like the game for those ...

Re: Riddle Me Not

The "correct" answer to most riddle encounters in a D&D game is to use your crazy powers to bypass the damn riddle encounter . It's basically impossible to include a riddle that it makes any sense to actually try and answer short of the most abysmal railroading techniques. And those a...

Yeah, the thing I don't like about this idea is that either you can't fight next to cliffs at low levels, or really big cliffs only deal 1d6 damage at low level, or you get crap-tons of XP. Yeah, that's pretty much my objections in a nutshell. I would be more sympathetic to having falling damage be...

Group Dice Rolling: Every person rolling a dice sounds cool. It makes Diplomacy, and Trapfinding more interesting for the group. I agree that this could make things more interesting for everyone involved. It reminds me of Dungeonscape's encounter traps. Traps Trapfinding shouldn't be a special abil...

The only thing that sucks about so many books is that they have a few really nice things in them spread between a bunch of crap. Some of my favorite non-core books are: Expanded Psionics Handbook - I like this sub system and can use most of the book. Tome of Battle - Same as above. Heroes of Horror ...

I'm of the opinion that potions should heal the max amount of the spell. None of this 1d8+1 or 2d8+3 bullshit. Know how many times I've rolled snake eyes on healing potions? Too damn many. If they're going to cost so much, they should do something worth the expense. That's what wands are for. Less ...

What the hell is wrong with just banning psionics? To me it's just an issue of conceptual space and time management. I already have mages and clerics, I don't need yet more stupid crap which actually requires me to modify canned adventures if I have to use them, when the point of using them is that...

Re: [D&D] Warning signs: how to tell your DM is problema

6: If the DM bans Tome of Battle specifically, this is almost always a warning sign for similar reasons. Namely, kneejerking. If made to elaborate, this will be proven true again and again, as it is very rare for the reason to be something other than some variation of 'They're better than Fighters'...

I don't think that it's accurate to say that kicking down a door does damage to it. Yes, the locking mechanism is damaged, but structurally , the door is fine. I expect damage to a door to result in rents and splinters. If your foot goes through the door, then you can call it damage. But since you ...

I dunno about GitP (other than it being made of Fail, obviously) but from what I've heard, BG is slowly self destructing due to massive amounts of Meg Fail. I think a lot of that stems from the BGs trying to get the forum back to its podcasting roots. That, and I guess she talked to people who didn...

Re: More Pathfinder previews: Rogue (+ traps & poisons)

A CR 10 trap that has a DC of 20 to disarm? Huh? Skills still work the same in PF, right? Do the designers realize how easy it is to get a +19 mod at level 10? Why not set the DC to "standard action"? And to think I thought PF was going to be cool when I first read about it over a year ag...

I've always understood that you get a standard and a move, and can convert your standard to a move. Then they added swift actions but never specified that you could convert to those. Correct. They explicitly state that you can swap a standard for a move. When they later came out with swift actions,...

To partially derail the thread in order that I might not create a new one: What do you look for in a new edition? Do you want the mechanics of the old edition cleaned up, or do you want a large system "reboot"? Personally, I want the former, which is why 4e is such a big turn-off for me. ...

The fighter only gets one shot in her entire life to force a door open. Or until she levels or gets some further bonus; failure indicates that the door is too tough for her, kicking it again won't make the door flimsier. This isn't perfect, but its way better than take 20 where the DM either decide...

So, let's say you're fighting a CR X monster next to a cliff. If the monster bull rushes you off the cliff, is the damage deteremined by the CR of the mosnter or by the CR of the cliff?

Re: Kicking Players Out

Personally I haven't but I did come close. I did have one player that got bad enough with cheating and bad playing in general that I finally had to talk to him. I'm not the confrontational sort, so I'd be slow to kick someone out. Still, I don't see a problem with kicking someone out if they aren't ...
