This is why you, Mister Cavern, need to tell the players what you want the campaign to be about in advance, so that they can generate characters that will fit into what you want to have happen.

Having looked at the actual cards that sacrifice lands... it actually doesn't seem as powerful as I thought.

The card it works best with is probably smokestack:

EDIT: Or maybe some kind of mill deck that uses it "fairly" to hit land drops.

A land you could (re-)play from the graveyard would completely change the balance of the cost "Sacrifice a Land:". I suppose if it had a death-trigger that exiled it, that might make it work.

The problem with Trump is that there's not that much time left for him to implode (with the holiday interruption to campaigns) before the actual primaries start. And if he's still hanging on but not winning in February, the man is egotistical enough to run third party. That would be wonderful to se...

1) Famines and plagues cut the population way the fuck down. Because fields do not produce twice as many crops when you throw twice as many people at them, everyone dying actually makes it easier for Europe to feed itself. I was doing research the other day and saw mention that wages increased rema...

I do not believe no one will play the card. In fact, the card was designed to please a certain segment of the Magic community. I dub this style of player the uber-Johnny. Maro always wants to go back to his fucking psychographic, but I've read the same intention represented in a far less patronizin...

Nah, there are decks based on Balance and Barren Glory that turn disadvantages like that into value, and others like Hermit Druid that play out of the graveyard and desire ways to get rid of a hand. Plus whole set-focused mechanics like Madness that actively participate in the discard mechanic. The...

Demonic Consultation is an instant instead of a sorcery, and costs only {B} instead of {1}{B}.

Vampiric Tutor doesn't put the card into your hand, and wasn't out yet anyway.

Seismic Assault seems to be preferred over Stormbind now, presumably because it doesn't cost mana to activate.

You also have more control over your discard, so you can have other spells around and just recur Life from the Loam for quick wins.

name_here wrote:Ravnica did something special; each guild had a land that tapped for one mana of both guild colors simultaneously. The price was that it came into play tapped and you had to return a land to your hand when you played it.
They are called Karoo lands, because Karoo did it first.

There was a time when playing a deck that aimed to get an 8 mana creature into play was a novelty that turned heads on the tournament scene, purely because everyone knew big creatures were bad. WotC made attempts to reverse that trend until the printing of the Titans in M12 showed that you could ma...

Amusingly, if you could somehow give your opponent control of your cumulative upkeep triggers, there are cards that could protect the cumulative upkeep cards.
