Arrange sales to foreign nobles with too much money, and skim a little off the top of those sales to start working on your own little projects. So the PCs are encouraged to be corrupt governmental officials? The rules do pretty much encourage it since after a certain point you can mitigate enough u...

Hunter is a thing that 0-level NPCs are. It just is. There are PCs who are hunters, but it is their background, not their class. Because hunter is and always has been a job that 0-level NPCs have. You can keep saying this all you want, but Hunter is the more frequently used name in games these days...

I already tried figuring out what that trading post is good for (nothing), if it can be used (no), if it can be aquired (no), if those owning it want to use it (no) If you're talking about Oleg's Trading Post (the place where you start), this is also a DM thing, since Oleg's per the adventure is ac...

I am already getting a headache. "game over is looming around the corner, but you can't heve the rules, because your character doesn't know what the stats and costs and stuff is of building a kingdom." Any hints what to look out for? This is a DM thing, not a system thing. Fuck them, go r...

I like where you're going with this, but 23 damage isn't quite a death effect compared to 1d8+15. Maybe automatic critical hits? You can't just turn ordinary melee attacks into save-or-dies, either, because then housecats become balor-killers. The idea of "knock off half their hp to open them ...

To be fair, that is the ultimate consensus of the Den about almost any game you can name.

Can we please force all of CaptainPike's 4e defense bullshit into a single thread? I swear the same conversation is happening in multiple concurrent threads, derailing ones that are more interesting to read in the process.

To be fair, it's conceptually possible to make buff spells that have to be cast in combat time but are so strong it's worth it. It's a really hard design though, and D&D has never really done it. I'm not really aware of any games that do. A lot of JRPGs manage. -Username17 At the cost of the ki...

I dunno, I like the power source thing generally, as long as each power source has its own resource schedule/subsystem to work with. I mean if Divine classes are basically Binders, Arcane classes are casters, Martial Classes as Maneuvers, and Shadow classes use Incarnum... taking an Arcane Spell and...

Even still, it's hilarious to see how badly they are failing to hit the expectations of even Paizoites. The closest thing I've seen to a positive review of the VCM system is "One or two of them might be sort of useful for somebody who has a bunch of extra feats to burn" But burning 6 feats...

I toyed around with something similar to bonus attacks for higher success, except more limited (adding +1[W] per +5, rather than a whole extra attack). Even with a more limited bonus it wound up being a pain in the ass to make work in a way that felt right.

The thing is, the whole Numenera thing is that weird bullshit where you convert bonuses to a bonus level and then reconvert back into bonuses.
Wait, what? Expand? Or link to the D&D article about it. Because I don't remember seeing anything like this before.

Honestly if these end up being any good, I'll be happy with the existence of the book for that alone.

No kidding re: Hero. When I had a chance to play that a few years back, my group did no communication at all for character generation. Note that it is possible to make a mix of C+L and PB that isn't total ass. For example, vancian spellcasters in D&D have a PB subsystem for spells (slots and/or spells known) that exists inside a C+L system. You could also do C+L inside PB where the things you buy with PB level up to some "...

So, is there going to be a separate set of rules for country-level domains? You've noted that a county is at least 10 hexes, while an average one is 32 hexes. So your average county is about 1000 square miles. For comparison, small island nations like Jamaica are about 4000 square miles. So to get a...

I believe that avoiding at least half of these wouldn't actually be that hard. Obscurity and how well written each 'variant' is written can be avoided just by not doing write ups for each variant [Halfling]. Instead, just make the [Halfling] race, give them a general description, a single trait sha...

But how much of a better position would it have been in? W...

Basically that the FAQ is treated as errata, is usually used for stupid stuff like nerfing monks, and nobody has the time or inclination to sort through all of the bullshit in it.
