Thanks for the tips. So, human is generally the goto, but there are a few neat shapeshifters in Runner's Companion. How favorably do they compare to being an Inhabitation/Possession mage or just learning a shapeshifting spell? Let's say Libertad wants to play a kitsune. The Fox Shapeshifter in the 2...

What ARE some of the cool critter options you can use for a player in Shadowrun? I might be joining a 4E campaign later this month, but I've never been much of an expert on the setting or system. I think there was a shapeshifting kitsune as a party member in one of the old SNES games, and the recent...

I seem to remember seeing some pregenerated shadowrun 4E characters that were actually made following the rules and able to do things. But googling it on the Gaming Den isn't showing me anything, and I'm not sure if the Dumpshock forums are even still up. Anyone have tips for where I ought to look f...

Indeed. You could probably use Cursed Moon for stuff beyond the scope of the CV games and series. I haven't actually tried playing it, but it looked like it did some nice stuff with flavor for magic and monsters.

Those bullet points are pretty helpful. I appreciate that someone distilled some of the most vital things to clarify when splashing some Pokemon elements into another setting.

When I was running regular Pathfinder games, the monster PC rules offered immense amounts of free power. Our group liked making gonzo super-characters, so grabbing a caster monster PC and then playing them as a super gish was very popular. One guy absolutely loved playing liches, which led to a lot ...

[D&D 5E] Strongholds and Followers (MCDM)

https://shop.mcdmproductions.com/products/strongholds-followers-hardcover-pdf Earlier today, somebody linked me to this 3rd party book for 5E. This particular attempt at stronghold rules gives them the ability to directly boost PC combat ability, in addition to granting you strategic-scale options. ...

Pokemon: Liberty or Death (Setting Concept)

So I've been playing a lot of Dominions 5 mods lately. One of them adds a good dozen or so Pokemon nations, with monster line troops that evolve as they gain XP from combat and trainer commanders who specialize in recruiting monster allies in the field. It's a bit power-creepy, but has been surprisi...

For an example of the kind of miscommunication that could be really easy with a caller intermediary, lets say the duskblade goes invisible. However, Vanish , Invisibility , and Greater Invisibility all work differently. It’s pretty easy for Caller or DM to assume that the guy who said “I go invisibl...

I foresee issues when the caller presents the DM with a plan that one or more of the other players don't like. It might not happen the first time, and some RPG groups are very effective teams. But in my experience, a solid D&D team is pretty good about presenting their ideas in a way the DM can ...

Sounds like having one person bundling up their whole team’s decisions into a single document to forward to the DM might be helpful if people aren’t in the same room at the same time. For instance, that’s how a lot of play by email strategy games work. I have played forum-based civ games that also b...

I think it’s pretty clear that people would want different things from a Pokémon TradRPG. We established that earlier when people focused on what existing works they wanted to ignore. Depending on how much differentiation is desirable between classes, I could see this as a bunch of Elothar Warrior of Bladereach classes or something where you get a series of choices between level-appropriate options. I lost interest in Pathfinder 2E fairly quickly, but for a more tactical combat f...

Depending on how crazy you want things to get, there is some precedent for Pokemon law enforcement having guns.

Would it be possible to come up with a set of classes that all individually have something to do in each of the major minigames? Conceptually, it makes sense that trainer classes will have areas of expertise where they will be much more effective than others. The hiker is great dropped into a random...
