Re: Social Combat: An idea
However, a good point has been raised. Can people with really good social combat skills just go around using it on everyone they meet? Could a PC with good enough social combat abilities get all their equipment for free and rouse up a small army of minions at any time?[br][br]This would probably be ...

Re: Social Combat: An idea
It's the exact same roll as just offering to borrow his horse. [br]If you're asking to borrow someone's horse, you probably don't enter social combat in the first place. If you can convince him to lend you the horse by having a good reason or offering pay or telling him you'll kill him otherwise, n...

Re: Social Combat: An idea
As far as the role of multiple people in social combat, I think you may want a couple changes so that having a big number of people is not an auto-win or perfect defense.[br][br]Ideas:[br]Each person can be targetted and defeated individually. However, an action you can take in social combat is to d...

I believe you're arguing for two different systems, and there's no reason they can't coexist.[br][br]Social Influence[br]Effects: Minor[br]Likely Response: Nothing[br]Example: You use Diplomacy to have the Orc listen to your offer for his pie (but not automatically accept it).[br][br]Social Combat[b...

Re: The Bright Blade (fey-flavored champion class)
One solution to the spell-uselessness issue would be to give them spellcasting as (Su) abilities. Thus the DC will be level-appropriate, and the CL can be low without SR always blocking it. Also, it doesn't provoke AoO or require components, which is probably good for a class that's supposed to be c...

Re: New Edition: Setting
It is absolutely imperative that the players have a grasp on how "physics" works in the game. [br]I've got to disagree with this one, to some extent. While knowing the basic physics (like gravity existing) is important, the presence of a few Incarnum users in a far-off kingdom is more lik...

Re: New Edition of Rules
While tying Wounds to damage is obvious, and tying secondary effects like Stunning Fist to damage works for streamlining things, I see no benefit to virtual damage for things like Mind Control.[br][br]The reason is primarily that, while tying it to HP seems like an ablative system (which might be an...

Re: WotC's 'holiday present' the 4e Elf.
Perception is admittedly one of the more vital skills, but having a 25% better perception chance (which will remain 25% at any level) isn't throwing the RNG out the window yet. Heck, even a 15-point difference is still (barely) on the RNG. [br][br]The skilled/focused vs levels factor is bigger, but ...

Re: WotC's 'holiday present' the 4e Elf.
A minor point in its favor, but the stacking bonus is to a skill. For many skills, being a bit off the RNG from a totally unskilled person is acceptable, or even desirable (IMO, at least). [br]Now the "aura" bonus - that's just a pain in the ass. If it was "all allies within line of s...
