Bradley Cooper laid it out in a couple of interviews:
to the effect of "this isn't a political film; the point of this character study is a demonstration that these people are coming home and need/deserve our help".

In that respect, the film stands on its own. Let it be.

At the end of the day, the DM - by virtue of being the guy actually running the game - has to be able to run the game that he's comfortable running. And magic items is one of the levers he has at his disposal for doing that. By just dropping the whole magic item list in the PHB, you've now set the t...

@ACOS In the context of choice, empowerment and entitlement are the same thing. Like, literally the same thing. Any argument that tries to draw a distinction is doomed to fail on first principles. If you said something like 'between races, classes, feats, spells, traits, etc. players have too much ...

[*]Leadership (should be in PHB) Given that it is explicitly optional, and attached with a fair amount of warning - in addition to it coming at the end of a multi-page discussion on followers in a story-building context - I think that DMG was the right place for it. That location also made it less ...

Would it have made more sense, then, if they were set on the staggered release thing for them to have published the DMG first along with the basic rules online, and then follow up with MM and finally PHB? That way people buy the DMG, decide to run, gather a group, get more converts, can buy the MM ...

@ Windjammer: Since I am ACOS, I can certainly say that Frank's explanation follows my thought process pretty well. The only thing I can (maybe) add to that explanation is that "a year from now" will reflect (1) how well that word of mouth has spread, and (2) people's reaction to th...

I actually see that as surprisingly well for 5e. The tell will be what those numbers look like a year from now. I'm going to make a big deal of the fact that those numbers listed a significantly lower proportion of players to games compared to the other two games in the top 3 for number of games be...

Second place on Roll20.
Given that the DMG just came out (and the rest of the game is only a few months old), I actually see that as surprisingly well for 5e.

Double casting rate is HUGE, especially when both those spells are allowed to be top level (contrasted to Quicken Spell feat). It simply isn't sane ... not when you have a game that expects that BDFs are supposed to be in the party as well.

TBH, I think it would probably fall flat. Frank has already stated explicitly that he gives less than zero fucks about the edition. We've already got the MM, the PHB is boring as shit, and the DMG is jumbled pile of fuck. At this point, trading dead baby jokes would be more entertaining and producti...

Also, as I understand it, China's demand is finally leveling off.

The conspiracy theorist in me wants to believe that this has to do with trying to drop the hammer on Russia (in addition to the other economic sanctions). Though the more "reasonable" side of me is skeptical of that theory.

You guys will never make this work. Your only hope is to say "fuck it," and make Mass Combat a some sort of single opposed roll with modifiers based on what's in the army. Anything less abstract than that is going to suck dicks. Are you suggesting Swarm Rules? Btw, are there any actual Sw...

Okay, so you need to assign your units a variety of combat values: * size * modes of movement * maneuverability - not just how fast and agile, but also time it takes to enact movement commands * attack values: -* types and frequency of each type -* effectiveness (perhaps -vs- various defense values)...

Any mass combat game is going to have to simulate morale and supply rules, which are a hell of a lot more troublesome than modeling to-hit and damage rules. I'm not sure if this is the best yardstick since I don't read much fiction, but historical battles with thousands of men usually end with most...
