That's not really a "spell" problem, that problem pops up in pretty much all of third edition D&D. Incantatrixes fluff-wise are supposed to be noncombatant abjuration specialists, but they get played as hardcore battlemages with nigh-impenetrable shields because that's what you can do ...

I am told by 5e defenders that determinism is bad because it means people can't make hail mary bullshit attempts.

I think I will let that statement speak for itself.

Keep in mind skills can just randomly change attributes for reasons when the DM feels like changing it up. So not only do you not know what you can climb with your +7 athletics, but it might randomly run off int and become lower! 5e has just enough rules so that you are forced to mind caulk and thin...

Were there mulligan rules?

You still end up with everyone dumpster diving for Red Alert/Not Ancestral Recall, but still.

Also how many of these cards could you have in your deck?

You guys are arguing over the PF2 rules and all I see is pointless, additional Paizo complexity for no real benefit to the players or DMs.

So is it actually possible to bump a necromancer's death magic attack into the stratosphere so everyone crit fails all the time and you can go play something not PF2?

Yea, to hear the goons talk 4e is a golden age of good mechanics and a bulwark against the mean old wizard who can replace the rogue with knock spells. I am convinced most of this is because goons like playing fighters. It's telling that they post long rants about how it is TOTALLY UNFAIR and NOT AT...

Heh, Something Awful is still screaming about how 4e is the one true way after it got shitcanned. See, Mike Mearls really wanted to make 3e and not 4e so when he took over he sabotaged the bestest most selling edition ever by releasing essentials. This is what they're saying on the SA boards. The fu...

They're not gonna adapt the color wheel, the game will explode. 5e barely handles multiclassing.

A competitive D&D circuit would be amazing because it would actually encourage critical thinking and discussions of the rules, rather than "well I like that I paid $50 to not have a skill system, why are you such a rollplayer?"

The big thing you get from the magic community is the willingness to analyze rules and numbers and to listen to people who are capable of doing that. WotC - from what I've heard - promotes actual tournament winners to designers, whereas Mike Mearls pretty much just throws his hands up and screams th...

As 5e ripped from Pathfinder, so PF rips from 5e. The cycle of incompetence is complete. Once Mearls was the apprentice, now he is the master.

If you really wanted to keep the "oh my god there's something terrible inside me" you'd probably just work with "regular" old mental illness rather than weird racist crap. This even fits Lovecraft's biography (IIRC) as his mother had a breakdown when he was young, got institution...

5E D&D's big innovation was to make straight hit-point damage without the rigmarole of save-or-dies a viable solution for parties. This also applies to casters, too. If you really want to just straight-up do cynical hit point damage, you can if you put your heart into it. Everyone knows about t...

HP numbers in 5e are batfuck insane. A CR 1/8 monster is allowed to have over 30 hp per the DMG table. This would actually be forgivable if monsters did anything interesting or had any cool tricks, but they don't - and once you do this monster damage output needs to go way down. It's like they wante...

The concentration is a much bigger deal in my opinion, because you could be concentrating on wall of force and trapping dudes in there with no way to get out unless they have disintegrate*. The concentration system needs to be taken out back and shot. *As 5e NPCs run on arbitrarium like 4e NPCs, the...

But I genuinely didn't feel that my 5e character had enough fiddliness. There just weren't meaningful choices I could make most of the time, and I was a fucking Druid. Being a Fighter looked like something that should be played like five at a time. This is legitimately one of the system's problems,...

Hexblade is pretty damn nuts in 5e land. Made a polearm master one for AL and he outdamages pretty much every party member.

I also feel compelled to point out 5e offers no reason to play anything not a feat human.

I gotta raise the "what the fuck did you expect" banner again. Remember the PF playtests when Frank and others went into Paizo forums with math and logic and were informed that monk was a totally valuable caster killer class as is, or that evocation was perfectly viable? The fact that they...

All the powers are NPC only despite a warlock who serves demons being in the PHB.

Uhhhhhh....

I get that letting PCs have it would be Elder Evils style bullshit power creep, but maybe this would be a time for some more feats or some shit so you can get players to buy this book?
