Re: mechanics for armor quality / Soak + armor coverage
Giving even relatively small amounts of DR makes characters tougher against lower-level opponents Is it worth calculating DR in armor to make low level PCs less squishy when ultimately that same amount of effort and math is hardly a speed bump at higher levels? I ask because a reoccurring theme abo...

Re:
Now, maybe the generals aren't meeting for a pint at the Bucket of Blood. Off topic, but fun trivia. Back in the 60s, Uptown in Chicago had a lot of bars owned by Native Americans. One was indeed named, “Bucket of Blood.” Another was named, “The War Bonnet.” I was told this by a Native American tav...

Re: mechanics for armor quality / Soak + armor coverage
Some games do both, so what games do y'all find do both well? Where armor coverage and armor quality are both taken into account in a way that's fairly fast Others have mentioned GURPS 3, but that’s no longer true in GURPS 4. HarnMaster has an extensive armor system. 4 types: soft and hard leather,...

Re: Matrix RPG?
If you’re invested in Mage, which I think you are Prak, then yeah: gun-fu is far more coincidental than a black hole coming into existence in the middle of nowhere. So, two questions: Avoiding a black-hole vulgar event awakens the full effect of the matrix against you, yes? This seems bad because qu...

Re: Matrix RPG?
Once reality is malleable couldn’t you use Frank’s cyber deck rules with shadow run, feng shui with magic, or as you say quantum bears. It just seems an RPG in the Matrix is just one stat 2d6 and anything goes when I hit the TN. EDIT: … because the gun-fu of Matrix isn’t even a requirement, when you...

Yeah, SJG was one of the first companies to take digital publishing really seriously. This was a let down for me.angelfromanotherpin wrote: ↑Sat Sep 04, 2021 2:30 amGURPS pdfs are usually pretty well optimized these days. The lesson is to wait for the release version.

Re: Most Recent GURPS edition and Girl Genius
Warning: the PDF is not optimized and renders awfully slow on a 2 year old gaming PC. So slow, in fact, that the document is rendered unusable. The file contains no inline or TOC hyperlinks.

Most Recent GURPS edition and Girl Genius
I’m a big fan of the Foglio’s Girl Genius. I also played a lot of GURPS 3E back in the day. Any denners have experience with the last GURPS and might I be lost/shocked by this version if I haves used the system since the early 00s? I’m very aware of many of the issues with the old edition, especiall...

Garland promptly informed them that he will give him a medal because he loves crimes, but he will not be prosecuting any (rich) people for their crimes. 😂 You are why ...

Re: [5e, Creative] Spheres of Power & Might by Setting
Jakandor would be kind of interesting as the premise is that all the PCs are native islander magic-users who have survived a plague and use their dead loved ones as zombie servants, soldiers or planar seers, while they fight off scary white barbarians. It struck me as as an interesting setting that...

Re: [High 5e] Brancalonia: Spaghetti Fantasy Setting
Those are good observations, Chamomile. I’ve very little experience with 5E and just don’t see how E6 is as applicable to 5E.
In regards to teleport or planeshift, I wonder if those spells could just be replaced to represent the setting in E8 or 10.

A cv is Brit for resume.
Curriculum Vitae (CV) is Latin for "course of life." In contrast, resume is French for "summary."

Re: Why are kobolds?
Yeah, Glorantha is weird, and mostly goes all in on that "non-humans would be completely alien, so no you can't play them" thing. Glorantha is weird because the degree of immersion that is expected to engage the world requires more than a couple years of theology. Understanding stuff like...

Re: Why are kobolds?
When Prak first talked about gem magic gender alteration, I was thinking about it in a totally vancian, limited duration kind of way. I mean, we’re talking D&D. So, mea culpa. In Glorantha, Trolls have this divine level curse that makes them not breed true some of the time. In fact they do ritua...

Re: [High 5e] Brancalonia: Spaghetti Fantasy Setting
E6 rose in popularity during my hiatus from D20. Intuitively, I understood it could work since there were cartloads of feats to keep people enjoying the incremental rise in power.
Does anyone here have experience with E6 and an expectation of it’s application would be in 5E?

Re: Why are kobolds?
The way I was parsing it was that if kobolds were first associated with the chromatic dragons, they would get a bad rap because chromatic dragons are a scourge. Then when metallic kobolds started appearing, they’d be found among the dragons that are generally considered good. But, if metallic and ch...

Re: Why are kobolds?
Well they’re tied to chromatic because of the lore, they’re evil and meant to be murdered. But since your design goal is to remove the last two bits, I can imagine a kobold, desperate to keep the tribe prosperous, coming upon a metallic’s lair and stealing one of its eggs. The results being a metall...

Re: Why are kobolds?
Not scoffing Prak’s attempts to do something different … I’d much rather Kurtulmak being a divine afterbirth or degenerate egg twin of one of Tiamat’s offsprings which would explain why kobolds are always hanging out with dragons … they use the [insert biological term] waste of the egg innards to cr...
