You'd have a bunch of themed decks which overlap with the decks that PCs can select from, is my first guess. So, e.g. Cthulhu would be drawing from the Dreams, Water, and Tentacles decks, while Yog-Sothoth would have Travel and Summoning. But that's the problem. Putting together a bunch of differen...

Enemies in a Winds of Fate Deck RPG

First off, and in all caps: DO NOT ARGUE ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT YOU THINK WINDS OF FATE IS A GOOD SYSTEM. I am trying to make a Winds of Fate system, and therefore do not care if you like it or not, or if you think it's a terrible system or not. It's the one I'm fucking using, so only bother to commen...

To be fair, the mongols only really adopted siege weapons after working with China and then attacking China. Before that they really were nomadic and didn't engage in sieges, but of course they later used that method when conquering half the Eurasian continent.

Just to chime in re: the elf/dorf stuff, there seems to be a large segment of players that really likes being able to write "elf" on their character sheet and have it mean something. Every group I have ever played in has had at least one. This includes when there are wacky races like Snak...

Do the werewolves sexually molest wolves? ...I'm not sure if you're trolling, but: They have a social structure that is similar to wolf packs, but none of them ever sexually molest wolves. Seriously, not one of them ever. That would be fucking creepy. They are a self-sustaining species who mate tru...

Hm, both posters have commented that I lack robot people despite the homunculus intending to be robot people. Definitely have to make their role more explicit in the text. Also, good point about beastman/werewolf overlap. Would it be better to take out beastmen, whose point was a variety of animalis...

Setting: The Monsters You Actually Want to Play

So I'm just writing up a fantasy setting, like you do, and I was wondering if my spread of fantasy species was inclusive and diverse enough for player tastes while maintaining some good setting consistency. These will be the entirety of the cognizant species in the world, so barring planar travel or...

If your DM bans wizards and clerics for being too powerful but inexplicably allows Shugenja and Wu Jen, that's a valid reason to play them. Otherwise no.

The usual answer- NPCs aren't controlled by players who see all power increases as varying degrees of "a good thing," and are meant to model people who have worldly concerns like "bring in the harvest, feed my kids, have my soul accepted by Pelor when I die" who would object to ...

This is actually a useful test example to display the weirdness. Being an atheist in D&D doesn't mean the same thing as in the real world. The gods manifestly exist. You can go and talk to them (with enough magic) if you really work at it. You can even kill them (though this may or may not actu...

Mind flayers, githyanki, yuan-ti, and other psionic creatures can create psionic effects without having levels in a psionic class (although they can take a psionic class to further enhance their abilities); such creatures have the psionic subtype. Characters using dorjes, cognizance crystals, and o...

What are you, retarded? That section is clearly referring to the paragraph just preceding it where it calls out specific monsters as psionic creatures that can use psi-like abilities without having manifester levels. Sure, you CAN take out both the paragraph before and this line after: "Usually...

My society put a man on the moon. I have a magic mirror in my pocket that talks and has encyclopedic knowledge of all things. I am eating a tropical fruit in the middle of winter. The idea of Exalted's mass combat

So there are quite a few ways to do mass combat in an RPG. One of the ways, made "popular" by Exalted, is to simply have troops be an equipment for your hero. This really isn't anything new- there are plenty of video games that use the concept, where troop number is basically your hit poin...

I've actually ran part of the World's Largest Dungeon. Only part of it, because it is boring as all fuck. Like Kaelik said, the intro is all fiendish darkmantles, and that sets the pace- every area is just the same creatures spammed over and over with little variety, no noteworthy quests or fun NPCs...

In 3.5, the raising monsters part is very easy: if they are animal intelligence, you use the Handle Animal skill to rear the young and teach them tricks. If they are above animal intelligence, fuck off. Taming adult monsters has no rules as far as I am aware, other than shit like Dragon Leadership o...

But in the modern world,  millions  of people go missing every year. This is off by three orders of magnitude. Yeah, as Frank has posted about somewhere else, if you want to have rats with one HP you really need to have cats with 3 HP, dogs with 5 HP and humans with a minimum of 10 HP. Housecats and commoners shouldn't have an equal chance of killing each other in a fight. Having a "0 Hit Die" Back...

I would suggest having a basement tier of some sort below the starting character tier, and explicitly stating that the basement tier is for half-trained farmboys slaying giant rats. That way, DMs feel like they are "supposed" to start games at the start of heroic tier where you can actuall...

Uh, "The Den" doesn't think any games are good because we are a very, very small community with very different tastes. There's seriously like less than 50 of us who post with any kind of regularity on here, and all of us like different things.

Mystic Eyes is a stupid way to write durations for anything. Also all but two of the Mystic Eyes are personal only, and of the two that aren't, one of them is pointless to use twice on the same target and one is healing. So you wrote an entire stupid resource system to govern personal effect buffs ...
