Plenty of Divination spells target someone you explicitly don't have LoS/LoE to. That's the whole point.

I'll defer to an expert here: Please Don't Edit Me Out

I'm not clear how aborting fetuses with Down syndrome is in any way "supporting medical research intended to help people live longer, better, healthier lives". Unless you're suggesting that they don't count as people? I'm here for medical research and better technology, there's tons of peo...

maglag: that is a bullshit false comparison and you know it. Masks aren't to protect yourself, they're a fucking public safety measure, it's abhorrent to compare having agency over your own mobility aids with rejecting a public health measure. Exactly this. But also, blaming the entire pandemic on ...

This stuff gets pretty contentious pretty quickly, but let's run down the list. Is it possible to not be ableist while still acknowledging that, given the option, I'd prefer to have the use of my legs (or eyes, or whatever) than not? Sure, as long as you can acknowledge that the reverse may be true ...

I have a lot of people on ignore, and it's still hard to go back to old discussions and try to get anything useful out of them. Things may be better now, but not better enough. DSM, strongly disagree. Ableism, fundamentally, is about erasure and contempt. Which is ironic, because most abled people w...

Part of it is that online play has forced them to ban problem cards more consistently, but part of it is some serious design failures in recent sets. He's been writing high-minded theory articles about designing Magic cards since he started working for Wizards in 1996 (he's been in charge since 2003...

If you're going for this kind of time-sensitive investigation, then a push-your-luck mechanic could suit things well. Say you start out with a good chance to find clues/get info from suspects/track people down/etc Each time you follow a lead your success chance goes down, until you restart ("th...

I think the section you're referring to above is one such example. Makes sense. It was jarring to have the first couple paragraphs feel like a rough draft, and then slide into smoother prose for the rest. Your editors are doing great work! As before, thanks for reading and offering feedback, Whatev...

I think it's worth considering having a setting that's well-integrated with the rules. Something like Earthdawn (though very much not actually Earthdawn), where the game logic is also the world logic.

This is good stuff. I noticed that I'd occasionally stumble over an awkward, overlong sentence but that happened more in the initial chapters than the later ones. Definitely enjoying the world, feels real and makes me want to know more. Went back to read the older vignettes, and I'm excited for an e...

Fate-style compel mechanics could work for intentional failures. Particularly the sort of bartering aspect, where the GM might bribe you with more points because they have a really good idea where the failure goes, or refuse to give up points for a boring failure. Well, I'm not trying to tie the fa...

Unless you just want to get rid of randomness entirely, which... is an idea. That's the idea, yes. An element of an action points style system I think might be particularly useful here would be. Spend points for successes. Failures earn you points. A little tweaking in starting/free over time point...

Skills: let the players choose to succeed?

First, a quick explanation of what I'm considering "skills" for this discussion. If something is a defined action (like casting a spell, making an attack roll, moving 30') then I'm not worried about it here. Likewise if you're reacting to something (rolling a saving throw, taking damage, o...
