New Edition: Actions

Here's an idea:[br][br]You only have two kinds of actions: one activates abilities, the other is for everything else[br][br] Activate: Can activate one power, or make a skill check. Powers and skills don't give free attacks or moves.[br][br] Action: Can make an attack(with weapon or activated power ...

Re: New Edition of Rules

My question is: why have Str-based Two handed Sword maneuvers at all?[br][br]I mean, what is so special about a Two-handed sword that it does something that a Battleax or a Guisarme can't do, or even a dagger or a punch? [br][br]All it does it make you think the DM is personally trying to screw you ...

Re: New Edition of Rules

I like the "roll 3d6 six times, then take the difference from 70, then add whats left to one stat, or two if it takes a number over 18 or under 3"[br][br]So a 15, 15, 12, 8, 10, 13 is 73 so 70-73 you take 3 from a a stat of your choice.[br][br]Its balanced, and yet makes everyone unique.[b...

Re: New Edition of Rules

I've recently been thinking of dropping stats for the most part.[br][br]Give people stats for out-of-combat skills, but otherwise keep class features based off level. That way you don't have to really worry about stat arrays or good rolls or anything. You can have a well muscled mage and a smart fig...

I think you can have high-level fighters that do interesting things without having them go superhero on you.[br][br]I mean, normal but extraordinary things are things like:[br][br]*go into the town square, talk for a bit to convince guys to join you, then do a training montage for a few days and you...

Yeh, I had a similar idea when working on the Book of Gears.[br][br]Essentially, my idea is "if the spell can't fit on a card and the description can't be done in five short sentences, you shouldn't have it." [br][br]To make things fit on a card you'd also have to collapse the stat part so...

Re: Why Frank's Tomes Have Not Caught On (In Some Circles)

When Frank and I sat down to write the Tomes, our first real ideas were to just fix some things.[br][br]Frank really got into trying out alternate systems, and I mostly wanted to write awesome things for people to play. That's why we started with the Tome of Necromancy. We both knew that both mechan...

I was imagining a better and more fun version of Explosive Spell, and not the one currently in use which is almost unusable.

There's a Sorcerer spell out of Races of Dragon that lets you do that too, except it blocks LoE.

Basically, immediate actions suck.

Re: Modularity and the “narrowing” of D&D

Mostly, I'm tired of different kinds of magic. Honestly. [br][br]I already have a basic knowledge of thousands of spells for 3e. Considering that 95% of those aren't spells I'd use, and 4% are spell that are only useful for very specific circumstances (Guards and Wards), the game would be better off...

As far as I can tell, 4e is allow about:[br][br]A. Selling more product. This means encounters are supposed to look like a DnD Minis fight with random match-up monsters with no theme and cardgame-esque rule conventions. This also means that since marketing has told them that the Core books outsold 9...

Bringing Them All Back: A Fix.

In a world of magic that brings the dead back, you'd bring anyone even mildly interesting back.[br][br]For example: I'm a 10th level LG cleric, os why am I not bringing back a 3rd level CG Ranger I find dead in the woods? [br][br]Money? Heck, thats easy to get back. [br][br]Alignment? Good guys are ...

1. By the RAW, Swarms take up a much larger space than a pumpkin...that being said, why would you want them to enter a pumpkin radiating (or soon to be radiating) destructive power? Mmm....well, undead bees live in obsidian hives, so thats right out. Re: 4E: what can we expect from SAGA and Bo9S?

I expect they are going to "create" a class system that looks a lot like Earthdawn. I mean, the basic idea of feats was a straight cut and past from Earthdawn, and now that everyone will have meaningful class-specific feats as their only class features will mean its Earthdawn for really re...

Here is my advice:[br][br]Fix the problems, be open with your balance points, and make it awesome flavorwise. [br][br]Do that, and you might actually get paid to write DnD. The Core Half-dragon template makes dragons out of anything really. I mean, there is no reason at all to tell a player what exact templates or even base creature makes up a monster. Re: I hate the RPGA, and I'm an ass.... who needs some assis

Play a capstone character.

Its a character with a 100% XP penalty. Then you just do adventures at a certain level and keep collecting magic equipment and stuff. Its both kind of insulting and kind of ideal for a long-running character.
