Which is a bit of a long walk to say that if what actually sees play from Time is the 7/7 Trampler for 5 that kills itself in 3 turns and what actually sees play in Void was the 5/5 Trampler for 5 that you can replay as a ball lightning from your graveyard that people would naturally assume that &q...

Honestly I can see some room for refuffing with respect to Void, but the difference between Void and Time cards is very clear and that's the part that's most important. It might be better to lean harder on death magic/necromancy angle for Void but I liked the idea of Void paying out one less than yo...

In general the colors are built more around a set of mechanics the gel together well than they are the fluff. Especially with Time and Void. Time has a bunch of effects that are easy to fluff as temporal manipulation but those mechanics also are those most concerned with tempo as a metagame concept....

Taking a step back - you're spending a lot of time on lands which are not really the design failure point of MtG. People complain because they're poorly balanced, but that's it. If you're going to swap colors around, you should also build a better game , which starts by having more robust mechanica...

Now a more fundamental question is how you want to handle non-basic resource cards. The question of how good a reource card is supposed to be is extremely fundamental and colors how the game handles its design space in important ways. Personally I don't like you proposal of every land also having r...

To a first approximation, you've combined white and red while splitting blue in half. That's reasonable. At it's core that's basically what happened, but it is a little more complicated. Black lost quite it bit in order to become Void, much of which was redistributed into Life and Mind. Just puttin...

Alternate M:tG Color Wheel: Take II
https://i.postimg.cc/0jh9VsQq/All-Symbol.png I proposed an alternate color wheel for a Magic like game before and I thought I'd give it a fuller write up. The goal here is not just to make the colors have and aethetic but also to give them a mechanical identity. Void Void is themed around sacrifice...

I'm sorry for your bad Game Master and all the time you lost. Not this shit again. The rules both set the expectations for both the players and the Game Master and provide a baseline case to work off of. When a player at the table has a bad time because the class you wrote can't pull it's weight th...

And, no matter what scary embellishments you’d choose to place on these creatures, whatever tentacles or spines or big snaggly teeth or hagfish mouths, just remember: one of them is wearing a black coat, a pair of pinstriped pants, and a top hat.

It's obviously true some abilities can't be shared across resource management systems or even across classes with the same system. It's also arguably true that there are some abilities that could be shared without problems. It's possible that the your could write a Firebolt power that's shared betwe...

The thing with SAME is to have a mathematically diverse system, then apply flavor in a fitting way only after the system was deemed not to have glaring unwanted imbalance right? I'm not so sure on the mathematically diverse front. In core SAME there are only 3 types of characters. Blue characters w...

How long or abstract is a combat round in this game you're thinking of? I was thinking around 10 seconds for a combat round and not very abstract at all. That way if reloading a musket takes a full round musketeers can get off a vaguely historically accurate 3 shots per minute. Indeed, in most sett...

An attack that uses Agility + Strength to make and Insight + Willpower to resist is indeed less of a problem than an attack that is made using Strength + Strength and resisted by Strength + Strength. But it's still a problem, in that you're making Agility + Strength more commonly an offensive tool ...

Rambling about a SAME-ish system
So I've had some unorganized scribblings of a game using the SAME system Frank proposed on my computer for over 2 years now so I figured I may as well run them by TGD. The setting is inspired more by the anime take on the old western rpg tropes blended with elements from 16th-17th century. The setti...

Frank I'm sorry to say it but you're being that guy. The spell description of Blink says that your attacks have a 20% miss chance, that's just the fucking RAW. That's also the fucking RAI, the intent of the Blink Spell is to be a buff with a moderate drawback, that's why in splatbooks there's Greate...
