Have you played since they changed Bulwark, by any chance? I'm an LRM truther myself at most stages of the game but modern bulwark is pretty compatible with zoning out enemies anyway. They changed it from 50% damage reduction when you're not moving--aka, the most boring conceivable playstyle--to a 2...

Sure footing is eminently optional but I figure Bulwark is the best of the basic skills by a mile. It means you're always a Vigilance away from 40% damage reduction, aka enough to take an AC/20 to the face and shrug it off.

I beat the campaign in the pre-expansion days and despite all my kvetching about my OP assault mech I actually kinda feel like the real power creep is the Bulwark and Sure Footing reworks. Basically, the the old Bulwark was only better than new Bulwark in one of the two following situations: 1. You ...

Oh, for sure, it's just a shame that there isn't more of them and that I've seen so many people complain about them. I mean, don't get me wrong, things don't need to be punishingly difficult all the time. I'm not actually a big Souls fan, for example. But I am OK with people getting punished a bit f...

Actually, if you stick with something reasonably close to the stock load out then having a bunch of mediums advancing ahead of your Victor is surprisingly useful--a mildly undergunned Shadowhawk is shockingly tanky once you factor in how easily it can stack chevrons. Really, I think my biggest issue...

Manabolt has the advantage of having properties that physical weapons do not. You can shoot ghosts with it, and it goes out to line of sight and all that shit. -Username17 Plus, Manabolt is tied to a dice pool that can be used to cast more irreplaceable stuff like Heal, Detect Life and Phantasm. It...

I tried playing Battletech again but already quit because I salvaged fully equipped minty fresh Victor on Day 117. The game turned into an AC 20 vs Locusts and while that's hilarious it's not hilarious for very long.

To take a step back, I genuinely believe that Shadowrun would not be remembered if it wasn't for the fact that several of the pieces of cyberware were "broken" in the sense of being massively more powerful than cyberware was intended to be. The cyberware at the intended balance point wasn...

I'd argue that those scenes you are calling filler aren't actually filler, they're just things that you personally don't happen to care about because you're a genre glutton who's there for the scenery. From a plotting and character development perspective the scenes we're talking about really are lo...

The love story was tacked on because that's what you do, and the midbattle cuts were because that's the sort of thing that theoretically makes your movie all deep and meaningful if you're lucky. They've given him (or anyone) a reason to care about Dejah Thoris saving her coincidentally saves the wo...

Oh, trust me, I wanted it to be good. I wanted it to be good so badly that I demonstrably forget that the title was shortened to just "John Carter" because I am the sort of nerd who refuses to reject tacking "of Mars" onto things out of hand. But we genre enthusiasts are already ...

I applaud them for having tried at all but John Carter of Mars was bad and you guys should feel bad. Second that. There were a lot of things that could have been better, but the romance (IMHO) was the usual tacked on stuff you have to put in your action movie for some reason, rather than anything pa...

Its attempt at fleshing out characters just resulted in random disconnected shit happening at different points in the movie. Unless you have incredible instincts and intend to direct things yourself it's hard to get a sense of what the pacing will be like just from reading the script. Even worse, a...

My take on booze is that I've always enjoyed the drinks that just sort of embrace whatever it is the alcohol tastes like and works with it rather than try to cover it up. I'll take a whiskey sour or a particularly boozy margarita over some vodka bullshit any day. I will taste it, so your job is to c...

Side note: after going on a White Wolf binge (holy crap I didn't realize how prominent wolf rape was in Werewolf, I thought that was hyperbole) Yeah, people routinely go through the stages of grief when they find a White Wolf thread and assume that we're the real perverts. I don't even bat an eye a...

That's also true, but koku generated in rural areas is just as meaningless as gold generated in the urban areas (and gold generated in the rural areas would be similarly useless) in those situations. It's really more apparent that those are situations where production is sabotaged, and it virtually...

Bruh, if you don't get how "Autism McGee" is at the very least condescending, then you're the one with social problems. But hey, you don't have to interpret that as an insult.

While I hate allowing dictionary definitions and good intentions to fall to the wayside I ultimately do think the best tack is to remember our Wittgenstein and consider that meaning is use. The only thing I like about Chapo Trap House is that sometimes evil people rightly identify their grandstanding as an easy target for ridicule but then proceed to own goal themselves in the rush to go up for a dunk. That's not enough for me to give Chapo Trap House a pass though given that it's usua...

Yeah, the average cleric spell simply isn't very good and clerics make up for that through a combination of a decent chassis, riding the unusually good spells they do have into the ground and by paying no opportunity cost for knowing utility shit like Purify Food and Drink. Limiting them to a select...

I think the real lesson here is just say "No" to solo opponents in Shadowrun. If the PCs can manage a 5 on 1 hit versus someone who can't scrape up a rando and 2 drones to hang out with then I am fine with letting nature take its course. Anyway, my approach with Shadowrun is that I stat mo...
