The way the example is described, the enemies were not specifically determined before the roll happened. But that's not the same as coming completely out of nowhere and changing the situation for the worse. Where that's the case depends on what the GM was thinking, which we can't really know (and it...

The main argument I can see against Charisma as a stat is that it's too important, in that the majority of protagonists have it, but by making it stat then only 1/4 or less of the PCs probably will. Like for example, people make a Barbarian with Cha 8, then they try to intimidate people and fail, an...

One-shot items. I was reading a blog where the author suggested giving out primarily one-shot items, because then the players don't end up relying on the same ones repeatedly. And it made me think of Numenera, where that's the default. As a GM, one-shot items have a lot of advantages: * Can give out...

I've seen this as a suggestion for the Fighter. It has some potential, but: 1) This is involved enough to be a character's primary resource mechanic. So it should be only for certain classes that don't otherwise get one. 2) Picking from all feats ever during combat is shit, don't do it. 3) Picking f...

yeah, I remember Reflex saves while dying. I get it from a certain game play stand point, but it is fucking retarded. just like you shouldn't get will saves when uncouncious, or fort saves when... dead. Well you don't get any kind of saves when dead. Even if your corpse did, it would just ...

Do you mean not being able to buy items, or still being able to buy items and just also getting the automatic progression? In the former, I think there are some utility effects that will start hurting non-casters at mid level onward if they can't buy them. The latter seems fine - it might be a sligh...

I wouldn't dismiss fluff for a monster book - it makes it a hell of a lot more fun to read. And without any fluff, many monsters leave you wondering "Why would I care about using this?" Like for instance, the Esoteric Dragons in Pathfinder. They have almost no fluff at all. This is literal...

The problem with using high AC is that while "AC as not necessarily bouncing off / HP as not necessarily hitting" is given some lip service, there are a number of effects out there that assume "hit the AC = caused injury", and vice versa. Like the Harpoon, for instance. It really...

I think some kind of "get back up after being killed" ability might work better. Low hp, but if killed by a non-crit then on its next turn roll d6: 1-2: Really dead 3: Back to full hp, missing an arm (no grapple) 4: "", missing a leg (half speed, 5' speed if both gone) 5: "&...

And for this ability, it's not like it needs to cost an action anyway. "Once per round as a free action" would work just fine.

I think he's referring to a sequence with the same characteristics as in the OP - one composed of ordered integers starting with 1. Which can be done in log10(pattern) time if you just want a valid index. I'm not sure off hand what it would be if you wanted to find the earliest index - ie. "213...

I have to agree - at the point when you have hidden declaration AND type interaction AND funny-shaped areas, that's already plenty of complexity.

For accuracy? I dunno - you could represent high accuracy by letting the player shift the template one square at the time it resolves.

Ok, lets say I want to do something dumb and play a wizard that focuses on the Bigby spells. Ie, an evoker with a theme. Obviously, being any kind of wizard at all means I won't suck , per se, but it is a sub-optimal kind of wizard. What are good and bad options for this sort of character? 3.5, or ...

Like all facism, gitp also has right and wrong opinions. Basically if you argue that Wizards are better than fighters, and that fighters are the problem, you will get infractions for things that your opponents in the same argument won't. Like, I've literally received an infraction for quoting someo...

I'm on there - probably more often than I am here, given the much higher volume of traffic there. It's fine. It just isn't a place to vigorously hash out whether a given RPG is shit or not. Is this really a big deal? The reasons for sticking together have been pretty half-assed in most D&D games I've played, and as long as there wasn't an active reason not to work together (like incompatible character personalities), nobody had an issue with it.

The incense works, so they won't have learned every power ever before the game starts at least. However ... do you feel the Wizard is a weak class? I like the level of usefulness/uselessness in these items. Often these lists are truly useless items, like the Ring of Invisibility there, and well ... they're not as funny in play, because even if the characters bother to keep them they have no reason to use them, and so the group forgets they even...

The amount of time and effort it takes to acquire a Wizard spell, but out of thin air. They still need to make the Psicraft check (or Spellcraft if you have M/P transparency) The amount of time is two days per spell. So if the party has a month of downtime, that's 15 new powers for the Psychic. And...

But why you would pretend a 14 undead HD monster is a level 14 monster instead of a level 7 monster is beyond me. Are you drunk? HD != actual power. Re: [Tome/3.X] Psychic

First off, "learn as many powers as you want, prepare 2+level at once, and those can all be top-level stuff because you have no usage limit" does not match "not much breadth or variety of ability" at all. That's a hell of a lot more breadth than a Sorcerer has. I think some peopl...
