Re: Alt. Magic Systems: Any bridge the noncaster/caster gap?

Hmm. How about feats instead?[br][br]I really don't like the idea of tying specific things into class abilities. It limits the role and flavor a lot. Its one of things I dislike about the rogue- if you aren't dealing with traps and living creatures, you might as well be playing an expert with a hand...

Author stupidity.
You can't blame a creation for what the creator fails to do with it.

Is there any actual difference with that change, though?
The character can still do it... does how he does it matter?

Re: Save-or-Suck/Battlefield Control that allows a save: Dif

And you have to love a spell description that doesn't specify what, exactly, being trapped 'within or under' actually does. Is suffocation an issue? (it should be, if done right) Do they have enough room to swing a weapon in there and try to free themselves? Make somatic gestures for spells?

Re: Opinions on D&D settings "Magic Rules"

I always think of it as more a problem with the settings than the game. Or rather, a short coming of the authors, who don't have any real understanding of history or economics, or what magic would do to both.[br][br]On the other hand, its really easy to turn spellcasters into 9 to 5 wageslaves, and ...

Re: Opinions on D&D settings "Magic Rules"

Game balance… there is a catch about game balance. If the setting allows the standard stuff, its going to be at least as broken as the default rules. It really comes down to the DM putting his foot down (at the start of the campaign, hopefully, not after the spellcasters start making everyone else c...

Well... yes and no. You could revamp them, but a lot of things (aberrations and outsiders, in particular) just aren't going to be showing up that often. The 'magic at a price' thing really should cut down on the number of things summoned, or weird critters that wizards are experimenting on for no ap...

1186215379[/unixtime]]. Battlefield control is what you've got to worry about, and few monsters have that. Dragons in low magic probably shouldn't be casting spells at all, they just fly around with a breath weapon, and that makes them pretty dangerous in their own right. [br][br]Hmm. I actually co...

Real gold or 'virtual gold', it still sucks the heroism out of the genre.
Plus, you'll have to work out some justification... it lends itself a little too well to arcade game style 'power up gems'

Whats the first feat for?
The game doesn't really need yet another +1 bonus that doesn't always apply and even when it does, it quickly becomes so statistically insignificant that it isn't worth keeping track of.

As far as the Spellcraft access... uh, whee?

Their own products have pretty much shown the lack of interest in the current product line that heralds a new edition. Random new sub-systems (with the Tome of Battle defiling what little remained of the fighter's dignity). Obvious half-arsed efforts. Incarnum? Tome of Magic? Did anyone actually loo...

Well, if it helps, you can simply accept the fact that a sorcerer is pretty much an NPC class in the wrong book. It has all the hallmarks- limited choices, and nothing else beyond standard feat progression. Oh, yeah and it sucks at both item creation and combat metamagic. Good idea, WotC. Give it a ...

Meh. Its essentially Dark Sun without the deserts (including the evil not-quite-but-pretty-much-a-cleric class). Evil has won! Life sucks.
