Re: Annoying Game Questions You Want Answered
Huh. The last time I played a character in a 5e game that would have cared about AoOs was a *long* time ago (if ever?), so I guess I misremembered (though obviously I wasn't sure about that recollection). Mostly I play spellcasters who stay the fuck out of any situation where they'd get or provoke a...

I think that they were just a part of an era where manufactured outrages were less common, and people were broadly more ok with harmless irreverences like that. Remember, Red Devil fireworks were a thing for quite a while, and it is only in my lifetime that a big enough fuss was raised for the brand...

Gonna be honest I'd thought that satanists we're basically a cult for edgy libertarians myself not gonna lie. A friend of mine and his husband basically denounced it after some thing that happened. Maybe it was the Nazi stuff. I'll have to ask them. Thank you for subscribing to Satanism facts! Anto...

Woah, holy shit, the head Satanist is a fucking fascist? I thought Satanists were supposed to be THE GOOD GUYS! Especially Twitter Satanists ! I know you're being facetious and trolling me, but I actually know quite a lot of Satanists, even on Twitter, who are good people. In fact, there's an actua...

I mean, I'm not... I'm not worried about one dipshit on twitter thinking that hating nazis is somehow an extreme opinion. But the broader trend of people deciding that any and all kinds of hate are the same, that hating nazis because they kill people for their race/religion/sexuality/being a commie ...

Re: Annoying Questions I'd Like Answered...
I think that may be part of it, but I don't think you couldn't have hate crime legislation without condemnation of the word "hate." Crimes of passion are a thing, but passion is not condemned as (much as) hate is.

Re: Annoying Questions I'd Like Answered...
So, I saw yet another person, this time on Twitter, asking why people hate nazis. As if there needs to be some specific, personal reason to justify hating nazis because hatred is inherently bad, or something. Which, after I did the perfunctory shouting down of this dipshit, caused me to wonder, &quo...

Re: [5E] Warlock Patron: The Pied Jester
I did say "get." It's also worth noting that warlocks refresh spell slots on a short rest, so you could do two fights, then rest for an hour, repeat, if your GM is being stingy with the items. Rings of spell storing are pretty typical as treasure, and it's reasonable to ask your gm "h...

I'm working on a new thing and this- Advantage as a freerider is likely worse than the original 50% DOT, especially for eldritch blast because after the first ray hits, your second ray will have advantage. and that advantage lasts until their next turn, which will grant several allies advantage. Are...

(stuff about egregores etc) Ok, so, first, thank you for giving me a term for the way I see "gods" as an actual person in the real world (belief is... irrelevant to me, but when I think about "gods," it is very similar to the idea of egregores) and the knowledge that this is an ...

Well, what about a modified first level, so something like- Characters do not receive the following class features at game start: Barbarian: 1 use of Rage Bard: 1st level spells ("0" slots, meaning rituals can still be used) Cleric: 1st level spells ("0" slots, meaning rituals ca...

Sorry, I understand talking about Dimension20 and Critical Role made it sound like they're my basis for my judgement. But I'm actually given that impression by interacting with 5e players online, whether that be discord, reddit, tumblr, or whatever. Now, granted, this is somewhat self-selecting, and...

Re: Why are kobolds?
I was more referring to this part- the "leader" just has to be better at everything than anyone else... Which isn't hard with no infrastructure or organization to stop them... And you get fascism/feudal/hegemony/dictator society. Also, leaving aside all the theory and academic debate, when...

Re: Annoying Game Questions You Want Answered
Yeah, that's kind of where I wound up thinking about whether allowing spellcasters if I said they could just be 1st level. Druids, clerics and sorcerers quite easy to explain in the game premise. Wizards and bards are harder to explain, but I explicitly allow for "you made it out, but got dragg...

While that may be the case with the "creative" direction of 5e, I feel like the player community growing up around 5e is... not carrying that forward. I can't say with any authority that the majority of players of 5e don't carry forward that philosophy, but it does feel like the players wh...

Re: Annoying Game Questions You Want Answered
Interesting. Looks pretty similar to what I was thinking of doing with "proficiencies only" vs 1st level characters. The other idea I have is basically "first level characters, but spellcasters only get their cantrips." But I don't know how that would affect character balance bet...

Re: Annoying Game Questions You Want Answered
What does that mean in a practical sense? How does it compare to 5e characters? I'm not... absolutely set on using 5e, but absent finding another game that is literally perfect for the game I have in mind, I'm planning on using 5e, because, if nothing else, I'm accustomed to it, so I can at least ti...

So, I'm working on a one shot inspired by Night in the Woods, and in particular the song Die Anywhere Else from it. The idea is that the PCs are all nascent adults stuck in a dying town, who haven't really gotten any experience to speak of yet, and even if one of them made it out, they got dragged b...

"Yeah, we have a chief" *points to a goblin skeleton*
"...usually peoples chiefs are alive. Or at least undead."
"Psh. Yeah, and they're usually more godsdamned trouble than they're worth, too."
