I mean, the weather is pretty nasty, the bugs are of epic proportions (and pretty ubiquitous), and heavy humidity combined with summer-like heat for 7+ months a year does not make it a particularly nice place to live, even in Texas. However, you're going to be staying indoors all the damn time anywa...

There are still 62 electoral votes outstanding but as of now Trump has >270 and is the official president-elect. Thus far there have been 6 protest votes from faithless electors , 4 democratic and 2 republican, as well as several electors who abstained and were replaced. Unusual in the history of th...

Can this tangent be moved to its own thread? Pretty please? Someone would need to define where the tangent began... Game On, fbmf I'd say the split from "Russia had a hand in the 2016 election, let's talk about that" to "U.S. and Russia: Cold War Discussion" started here . Howev...

Trump picks Rick Perry as Energy Secretary . First off, as a liberal Texan, I am saddened to see Perry getting any attention that isn't open mockery. However, this pick is especially funny/sad because, you may recall, during Rick Perry's fumbled presidential bid he couldn't recall the names of all ...

It looks like that whole "CIA confirms that Russia influenced the election for realz" thing is picking up steam, so much so that McConnell is making a statement on it that's more than just "nuh uh!" So, what are possible outcomes of this? What even happens when it becomes officia...

The "by the power of the moon" bit from Prak's image made me think of these two pages from Kill Six Billion Demons (wherein an elder demon challenges a disgruntled sorority girl to a drinking contest, loses , and violence/hilarity ensues) http://de8ib6lw8p0gm.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uplo...

So even with the possibility of vote fuckery, Hillary Clinton is not going to pursue a recount in states where the vote count are suspect (MI, WI, PA), because of the fuss she made (though rightfully so) about Orange Hitler not conceding if he lost the election. However, Jill Stein is not concerned...

Mark me for flipping the fuck out. There is a fundamental difference between R-Money followers in 2012 being sad because they thought that a majority of voters agreed with them and they were wrong to us being sad in 2016 because we thought that a majority of voters agreed with us and we were right,...

Liberal Civility vs. Freaking the Fuck Out

If Clinton had eked out the win, there'd be outrage and violence and twitter wars and cries about rigged elections. There'd be shrill individuals crying about how afraid they were for themselves, their loved ones, and the future of this country under the upcoming regime. And we, the victorious progr...

In response to AH, Full Frontal Nerdity just finished a great little story about a fantasy Christmas-Halloween mashup that ends on a decidedly Lovecraftian note. The whole thing starts here . If we're talking real resistance, I'd like to see a vigorous pre-inauguration effort to charge Trump with treason for conspiring with a foreign power to subvert our democracy. If that works, combine it with the evidence for overt vote suppression and FBI tampering to try to get the election annulle...

What would successful Democratic Resistance look like?

For most of the Obama years, the Republicans of Congress have engaged in an unprecedented amount of organized opposition to Democratic legislation. At least until 2018 the Democrats are going to be the minority staring down what I can only assume are a lot of really enthusiastically delivered, retro...

The Young Turks any good? Soliciting recommendations.

Since the morning of the 9th I've been alternating between going online seeking catharsis and, when that gets to be too much, going back to pretending to work and half-assing my way through the day. While I'm not sure when precisely I'll be ready to move on to a productive stage of grief, I think I'...

Best thing I can figure to do right now is start documenting everything. Keep up with illnesses before and after food safety laws, if those do get rid of. Track the economy. Track hate crime rates. Make sure there's some measureable evidence of how bad shit has gotten, in case it comes handy later....
