If I wanted to Zerg Rush, I'd just play a Real-Time Strategy. Already I'm regretting the expenditure, but I'll just cheat like a motherfucker and start the game with assassins, succubi, void walkers and your mum. So clearly I need to amend the search query: are there any games that fulfil the above...

Also, my overall experience (at least on higher difficulties) has been that I can easily grow faster than the AIs, but I still get crushed if they decide to make a massive surprise attack against me before (roughly) the renaissance era. This is probably partly because I pathologically over-invest i...

So clearly I need to amend the search query: are there any games that fulfil the above criteria and reward you for settling down, exploring a bit for resources, developing your cities and making the best units rather than running ahead with Zerglings in the first three turns ? Civilization 5 is com...

In the Lab addresses one of my complaints about Pandemic, which is that it mostly feels like you're waiting for the cures to fall in your lap rather than going out and getting them, but in the process it adds a lot of fiddliness and not much depth. Or at least, that was my impression from playing it...

I can certainly see reasons why you'd feel differently about the Knight; but during development I had many of the same concerns about the Knight that I did about the Wizard and Druid, so it's interesting to know what worked for you and what didn't. It'll also be interesting to see if you feel any di...

Corruption has a lot of interactions that are either poorly defined, or simply very unintuitive. You asked about this previously in this thread . I did try to word the Corruption's rules specifically to clarify that it blocks bonuses originating at its location rather than targeting its location. T...

In a hypothetical pure-cooperative version of BSG with no cylons at all, I'm pretty sure the optimal strategy would still involve putting several players in the brig, so that you have more player actions and skill cards per crisis card (spam Executive Order from your cell). That's probably not true ...

Yes, the Nymph promo is separate from the main game and With an Inner Light. It includes one character (the Nymph), one event card (Metamorphosis), and one artifact (Hallowed Seed). The publisher gave BoardGameGeek a temporary exclusive on it as part of an advertising deal. As I said, BGG has recent...

I suspect the Nymph Promo disappeared from the BGG store because they ran out of stock. They recently ordered more, so maybe try again in a week or two.
I believe their exclusivity deal also runs out around October 15, after which you will probably be able to get it from VPG directly.

Question: is there a way to back out of a movement card if it turns out you don't want to go the places it will let you go? No, because in rare cases there are cards that get played as a reaction to you playing a movement card, so canceling out of a movement card is technically not the no-op that i...

In my experience, Cobalt is popular for pretty much anything having to do with ice magic in quite a few games. Anything blue gets associated with ice in lots of games, but that's not even trying. Cobalt is an ore named after goblins that releases toxic fumes when smelted, containing a secret metal ...

You do realize you're supposed to separate out the city draw pile (not the infection deck) into equal piles and shuffle the epidemics into each pile and then assemble the deck right? The difference between 4 and 7 epidemics is *huge* in frequency. Yes, I'm aware you space out the epidemics. My game...

Is there a way to keep a player playing after their token is dead? Your options here fall into 3 categories: Give them something to do that doesn't require a token. Maybe you manage the NPCs, or continue drawing cards but play them on allies' turns or something. I haven't played Sentinels of the Mu...

Ghost Story is a game I want to try, but the rulebook is... kind of awful to learn from when I sat down to a demo of it, and I'm wary of buying it for that reason. The rulebook is kind of bad due to translation, though I believe more recent versions are better than the original. The actual mechanic...
