Re: Warhammer 40k
Each of the 40K armies is supposed to fight like a particular science-fiction sort of army. The Space Marines exist so you can play like Starship Troopers. The Tyranids exist so you can play as one of the many bug-swarm style aliens. The Necrons are there so you can play as the armies of Skynet, or ...

Re: Monsters and magic.
In the Arcana Evolved magic set, many similar spells have a restriction to the caster's Type.[br][br]I don't really hold with arbitrary type-based immunities to effects. If you have an effect that lets you monkey with a creature, saves and specific immunities should really be all you have to look at.

Re: Player-friendly and -unfriendly effects
1178467564[/unixtime]]Don't forget loss of hitpoints and death effects! those can easily reduce the player to a spectator too! [br][br]Yeah, death is harsh that way. At the same time, most effects which make a character actually dead are given higher costs than effects which make a character only f...

Player-friendly and -unfriendly effects
A player-unfriendly effect is one that directly removes the ability of a player to play the game. You probably know the kind of thing I'm talking about: Hold Person, Dominate Person, Flesh to Stone, etc. The kind of thing that when a PC is affected by them, the player becomes a spectator.[br][br]I h...

Re: Sigh, D&D and what it can't do.
1178431136[/unixtime]]Le sigh. Why can't a game that's based upon storytelling work with differences? [br][br]Dungeons and Dragons isn't based on storytelling. It's based on tactics and resource management. You can use it to tell stories, but you can use Parcheesi to tell stories. RPGs occupy the c...

Re: I need help with my D&Dish scenario!
Okay, here's the Rogue writeup. Keep in mind that in the Special Abilities field, I'm not listing anything which isn't relevant, like how Razor Fiend only allows you to use half of this Str 10 character's Str bonus to damage. Also, some of the language involves Iron Heroes weirdness, like Finesse we...

Re: I need help with my D&Dish scenario!
The PCs [br][br]So, the first thing I did when beginning to design the scenario was create the pregenerated characters. I like pregenerated characters for many reasons: I can integrate them into the setting, there will be no unexpected scenario-ruining builds, and I can make sure when I write the d...

Re: I need help with my D&Dish scenario!
The System [br][br]Also for context, here is most of the variant system stuff I’m using. Most of it is from Iron Heroes.[br][br]• Assumption of no magic items and little available PC magic in general. This manifests as increased internal PC competence: Abilities are based on a generous point buy, C...

Re: I need help with my D&Dish scenario!
The Setting [br][br]For the sake of context and having everyone on the same page, here is what I have of the setting assumptions.[br][br]This is not your typical D&D world. It is most certainly not Krynn. It is a lot closer in flavor to the implied setting in Iron Heroes. Strong arms, stout hea...

I need help with my D&Dish scenario!
Hello all, [br][br]This is an open call for assistance on a D&Dish scenario. I say ‘-ish’ because of the amount of system tweak I’m using. Unfortunately, after struggling with the material for some time and reading a lot of commentary, I believe that the published material’s quality actively sab...
