Am I the only one who believes in panic? Fights are complicated, you don't always understand what you're up against right away, and sometimes it takes a couple of bouts before you think of an obvious tactic. For Green Arrow to fire off a couple of regular arrows before he gets the EMP or the Fire o...

what do we think of the idea of having access to the rest of your abilities at a penalty? that way you'll typically use what the WoF gave you against level-appropriate opposition, but if you have a good enough combo or the enemy has a particular weakness, or is just trash-mob that the right attack ...

Forgive the possible stupidity, but why is this system desirable? It seems like it's complex and time consuming for the purpose of limiting player choice. What am I missing? Winds of Fate has two main advantages. First, it prevents Five Moves of Doom scenarios where players do the same thing every ...

Vanished Objects: The keys you're sure were on the table a second ago. The spoon you dropped that never hit the floor. Small objects that simply vanish when nobody's looking. They often turn up somewhere nearby after a short search, sometimes even in the same spot they vanished from, but are the on...

What about having something like Earthdawn's steps? It's been quite some time since I played, but bonuses were in terms of steps on a table. Whatever the action was, you calculated your step and then rolled the appropriate dice for that step. That way, better attacks and weapons could add to the dam...

Thank you very much for the suggestions! I haven't tried it out yet, but I put ultimatebootcd on a small thumb drive with a few of my most critical files. Right now I'm partitioning my larger USB hard drive so that I can install Ubuntu on it and (hopefully) still copy files to the rest of the drive....

Recovery Disk Recommendations ?

For the past few days, my computer has only been starting intermittently. I've got everything backed up already and I think I know what the problem is*, but I'd like to get a proper recovery disk set up just in case. In my search for some sort of boot disk, I came across UNetbootin which promises to...

Cool, thanks! That should be enough to get going. I'll probably get started tomorrow (err... later today). Also, these are the conventions I'll use for areas unless someone has a better idea: Symbol Description @ The user. Areas assume the user is facing right/east. + A potential target. Unless the ...

Good to know. Thanks! With the semester wrapping up, I'll probably have some time to get working on attacks. I think I'll use the existing lists as a general guide, and then check everything over when the final move lists are done. I'll post the preliminary versions of each list's attacks as they're...

That's terrible. I've played with my cousin a couple times and it was a great game. There's at least one copy still in stock, so maybe I should grab it before it's too late.

Yes, but the reason nuking the oil spill was a valid option certainly wasn't "the green comet said so." Still, the middle of the article actually attempted to present a reasoned argument despite the rather unconnected beginning, so that may not have been the best example. I'll figure this ...

That website is one of crazy conspiracy theorists that mean_liar is complaining about. Yeah, that's about what I figured. I just remembered hearing about it before and that was the first site I found the article on. Not being able to track down the articles it used as sources is also worth a couple...

Fourth, there's the flourides-in-the-water crowd. They don't like vaccines because the UN or the Communists or something. Actually, if a fifteen year old article is to be believed, this one could be a valid complaint. While I haven't heard of anything like this happening recently, there's apparentl...

Excellent. I'll wait for those before trying to actually stat out any moves. In the mean time, I've done up a few tables with the average number of attacks for evenly matched Pokémon to take each other out a various levels, Bignesses, and damage dice. If anyone doesn't like these numbers for whateve...

So I've got my spreadsheet up and running again based on the following assumptions: All stats increase by 1 per level. There is no special bonus for being higher level than your opponent. Hit Points follow Koumei's formula (1 + Bigness/Level/Level) The attacker rolls 1d20 + Attack Stat and hits if h...

:( Great. My first post ever, and it drives away the person who revived the thread. I'm sorry Koumei, come back! The real problem at the moment isn't how to display information, so I really shouldn't have brought it up. What we need to do right now is decide on a general damage formula so that we ha...

The existence of Trap moves like Counter or Reflect imply that the special move be chosen in advance of knowing what the initiative count actually is. So the turn order appears to be: Select Card . It's face down, so any order would do. Roll Initiative. Characters move and declare special movement ...

I probably won't post too much, but I'm interested in seeing this project finished and I'd like to help if I can. Why ian't it dx/level, like the example some pages back had? It looks nicer and has better g...
