Wizards

Specialist Wizards [br][br]Note: Here’s something I started working on last nigh. This is not the same as my Final Fantasy Work, there are no Wizards - specialist or otherwise - in the Final Fantasy d20 system.[br][br] Design Intent: Wizards Wizards compare poorly to Clerics. They have worse BAB, w...

Re: Which is easiest?

You get a feat at apprentice level 3, so you then don't get a feat at (real) level 1? [br][br]Precisely. The feats are handed out every three levels forever. There's no longer a blip at level 1 where feats happen more often.[br][br]So the feats look like:[br][br]Apprentice Level 1[br]Apprentice Lev...

Re: Which is easiest?

Well, after talking to a bunch of people in email and in person, here's what I decided to do:[br] Design Intent: Characters with more than one character class While balancing a Monk 7 against a Fighter 4 / Rogue 3 is difficult - A Fighter 4 / Rogue 3 should be in all ways equal to a Rogue 3 / Fighte...

Re: Really Stupid Question: Scimitar vs. Rapier

In general, I value "Piercing" at about a minus 5% of an ability or damage point. I value "Bludgeoning" at about a plus 5% of an ability or damage point. I figure Piercing and Bludgeoning is worth maybe a plus 7& of an ability, and Piercing and Slashing is probably worth abou...

Re: Really Stupid Question: Scimitar vs. Rapier

Yeah, Josh nailed it in one.[br][br]Bludgeoning is, al things considered, the best damage type. Not enough to give a damn about most of the time, but it matters.[br][br]Piercing is, on the other hand, worse than the other damage types. Again, not enough for most people to care, but it is true.[br][b...

Re: Complete Warrior

Most undead don't have very high to-hits, so the AC penalty doesn't matter [br][br]This makes no logical sense. Proportionately, each point of AC penalty matters more when your opponent has a bad chance to hit you than it does when they have a good chance to hit you.[br][br]Consider, if they would ...

Really Weird 3.5 Trivia

Here's a thread which is just for really weird changes that are in 3.5 that you probably wouldn't have noticed unless you did a very careful read through of the rules. Here are a few obscure ones, feel free to add more:[br][br]* Incorporeal Creatures can not walk through walls. That's right, Incorpo...

Which is easiest?

OK, I'm doing a Final Fantasy write-up for d20. It's here:[br][br]http://www.scshop.com/~ritaxis/ff/index.html[br][br]Anyway, one of the things I am running into is Skill Ranks and Frst Level Bonuses. Re: Design Intent: Gaining Abilities.

It's not that they can't - it's that they usually shouldn't.[br][br]For one thing, it's boring. But from the game balance end, an ability improving in a static fashion is a smaller and smaller relative bonus the more you get it.[br][br]Your example of the Paladin's Smite Evil is spot on, but I'll th...

The survival instinct ability seems cumbersome. You can still use their spell-like ability ability to negate the time component of spellcasting. There's one for fighting with just a halberd - it gives you a bonus attack with the butt of your weapon at -5 to hit that does hardly any damage and gives you +1 dodge bonus to your AC. It costs one feat to get it, and costs another feat because you need Two Weapon Fighting - which you have no earth...

Heh. It was the Genetics Final. It started at 40, and it's 5:20 and I am back in my room. Note, that the above assumes that it is a flat +1 to damage - like the Fire from an Azer or a sneak attack die (although that would be 3.5 damage, it works the same). If it's normal damage - and gets multiplied on criticals and spirited charges - don't add in the multipliers before comparing to-hits...

The luck domain is there on Bahamut because of the good fortune powers on the Gold Dragon - which are in turn there because the Gold Dragon is based on the Chinese Dragon which is considered to be Lucky.[br][br]However, be very careful on this class, and on any time you give a class "magical bo...

However, since they take negative time to make - you actually have to be travelling faster than the speed of light to make one.

So obviously, they exist only as a reward for surviving an adventure where you are hurled to supraa-relativistic velocities.

By the way, if you want to get technical, the relative value of to-hit vs. damage depends upon hom much of each you already have.[br][br]So, for example, +1 to-hit makes you hit 1/Xth more often, where X is the amount of numbers you already hit on, and when that happens you inflict Y more damage - w...

Re: For those just joining us...

The big problem here is that "What would you do with 9000 gold worth of platinum?" is not a class feature - it's an adventure hook. That is, it is a game session or two - at the conclusion of which, you probaly have most of 9000 gold worth of swag - but might not.[br][br]That's similar to ...
