Re: Core Principle: Your Alignment System is Dumb

No, the ends have to justify the means and the means have to be acceptable in and of themselves. You can justify almost any action if you look only at what you want it to lead to in the end. Himmler's Poznan Speech is a good example of what you can justify. Who can rationally argue against taking a...

So? You still have a normal Fighting build, but you will do +30 damage with every hit. The two issues are not related. It does to people who who try to min-max fighters. When I was still trying to make a straight Fighter work, I always preferred static damage bonuses over variable bonuses simply be...

I think you may have a non-standard definition of "metagame knowledge". An example of metagame knowledge would be, "The vizier is actually a vampire and the treasurer is really a doppelganger." Such plot elements should not be used without detailing the actions of all the import...

He shouldn't, because he should have the ability to obtain that information without looking at the DM notes. I'm assuming, of course, that this is one of those bullshit chests that shows no outward signs of being trapped unless you're a Rogue that searches every square inch of ground. That seems to ...

I'm sorry, if you happen to see the DM's notes and you realize the chest you were trying to open is trapped, you don't suddenly decide to stop opening the chest. Your PC wanted to open the chest, and realizing that there's a trap is metagaming, and deserves to be discouraged strongly. Or maybe the ...

The argument is a null issue anyway since the power as written gives control of who the PC disguises himself as to the DM to begin with. I really don't get why all the obsession on a misinterpretation of the rule. It seems to me that it's a symptom of a much larger problem. Whenever I see people co...

Why is so much effort going into defending a crutch like the important unnamed NPC? If a DM wants to do a political intrigue story, then the PCs should be briefed on the important players before they start trying to play politics. Letting them flail around without that kind of knowledge is a cruel e...

I don't understand why you're insisting that nobles control the resurrection market, because they only get resurrected through the charity of those powerful enough to not worry about diamond mines.

MM p290-1 has rules for adding class levels to monsters, and p293-4 has rules for adjudicating CR for class levels.

I'm not sure why this argument took place. Most humanoids have Advancement: By character class right there in their statblock.

Why do you want to do this? There's nothing inherently wrong with having "weird time" planes, but you have to specify a reason. If it's consistent, it's usable, and will be manipulated as a resource. I want to do this because I want to allow players to mess with time in well-defined and c...

Portals would make a lot of thematic sense and fit in with the airlock analogy, and I can certainly see the problem with a version of the Plane Shift SoD that works on things with Gate. I'll probably restrict them to a handful of well-known portals and a lot more lesser-known portals. Any sufficient...

Living with the Far Realm

The title of this thread is a bit of a misnomer, because I don't think that planes that give you an infinite time should exist. I, however, do think that places that let you trade time using some kind of exchange rate should. That leaves me with a bit of a problem, because if I allow that kind of st...

True, the Druid doesn't get the ability to deal 35 damage (enough to half-kill a Troll!) to an area at 10th level, but he doesn't really care, because he's dropping Entangle, Poison, and Wall of Thorns on people. Druids don't really fall off the spellcaster power curve until high level when Wizards ...

Actually, you should be complaining that he's scaling it to the GMW progression instead of the BoG progression. The BoG does away with the idea that a bonus to attack and damage is worth anything.

So, would a field that turns any shiv you attempt to use through it into a healing shiv be an appropriate Control [Healing] effect? Trying to compare a STR/CON build to a STR/DEX build is such a glaring example of intellectual dishonesty t...
