Lago, a high level Tome fighter (along with Tome feats and without Forge Lore) is an example of a combat effective badass normal that these people would want to play. Of course its fighting ability is superhuman, but thanks to the abstraction of the combat system, they don't notice. Heck you could h...

How many of those items does a 20th level Tome fighter need to slay a balor with ease?

I think this iron demon discussion is kind of stupid. Do you guys really care if a fighter has to use a magic sword to penetrate a balor's DR?

I mean, the Tome fighter rocks even without Forge Lore. And it gives off a mundane fighter vibe at all levels.

Lago, I think a "mundane" fighter can fare well in combat without suspending your disbelief. Since the combat system has such a high level of abstraction anyway, people wouldn't have problems with fighters scoring automatic criticals, piercing DR, disrupting actions and handing out status ...

Lago, I was just saying the fighter can handle all those situations in a mundane way. He doesn't need to be able to exclusively handle them to not feel useless. None of the three characters you mentioned handled any one challenge exclusively, just differently. And when in doubt, the fighter can use ...

Baduin, the Red Baron is clearly in the Heroic Tier. He can't stand toe to toe with paragon threats, such as Abraxus, Secret Demon of Secrets. As such, he doesn't have paragon tier plot advancement powers (such as the atomic bomb).

Is it really such a crime to play a combat-capable character with no magical plot advancement powers? I think its possible for a player to be content with mundane plot advancement powers at high levels. As long as fighter guy gets to sneak, seduce nymph-dragons, command an army and attend diplomatic...

Yeah, a tiered system would be awesome. I would love outlines for what stories can be effectively told at what tier. And rules for when ritual magic becomes everyday battle-magic would be much appreciated. A purely "mundane" character class can be written to kick ass in fights at any level...

Lago, I fully support the whole mystical warrior archetype. I love the idea of martial characters developing magical and fantastic fighting skills that any wizard would be envious of But we probably all know people who like to play mundane badasses for all 20 levels of D&D. Frankly, they're okay...

You could always change the rules so that characters (not to mention creatures) can only control or channel so much magical might at one time, be it personal (ex wizard spells, super kung-fu) or from an external source (ex items, blessings from gods). Mundane characters such as fighters or rogues co...

Did anybody else feel like the movie wasn't creative enough with dreamworld physics? By the time they got to the third layer the gun fights were kind of boring. And since Fischer knew he was in a dream at that point, couldn't the team get a free pass at doing straight up impossible things? Eames use...

Looking for a Fun 1st Level Adventure

Some friends of mine want me to run an impromptu game in either 3.5 or Pathfinder. Anyone know of a good ready-made adventure to take them through?

I always liked how 3rd edition removed most of the distinctions between magical and mundane sources of damage. I always thought it was stupid that a gargoyle was immune to being hit by a car unless it was a magical +1 car. I guess the fire resistance 1 negating lava thing is a weird holdover that th...

Druid Spells from the Spell Compendium

I was thinking of getting my hands on a copy of the Spell Compendium to help expand a player's druid spells. Does anyone have any choice spells they'd recommend?

I kind of want to know what the "inappropriate behaviour" was. I'd be super pissed if my Vice-principal filmed me masturbating in the sanctity of my own room.

Gylph of Warding

Came up in one of my games... Can you place a glyph of warding on ammunition and have the effect go off when it strikes a target? I'm thinking no, as the item needs to be opened and not merely broken. The Jester in the party just reached 4th level and wants to use his downtime to enchant various dag...

Would you say Tome characters are defined by their equipment? They appear to do a pretty good job of being memorable with even generic magic items that grant only numbered bonuses.

Give them like 3 per encounter. In addition, once the last one is used up they get another Kiai every 1d4 rounds, a la dragonbreath.

They get back their full number after 10 minutes of rest.

Tome Monk's Walk of a Thousand Steps

I was wondering why the Tome Monk doesn't upgrade his Walk of a Thousand Steps ability to use Master Fighting Styles before he gets Perfect Mastery at 18th level. 12th level seems like a good place to get it.
