Okay, fair enough, having to kill things the hard way does make swording a viable tactic. Dragging it out over the career of a character is still really boring though. I was sort of assuming that since abilities exist that make reflex half = reflex none plenty of people would interpret it that way. ...

How does automatically making all saves = unkillable? It means unkillable by SoD, which I realize some people love, but all it really means is "you have to sword this guy to death", or use no-save or direct damage spells (which would need a boost). Or hell, battlefield control. That part ...

I have always been completely in favor of option 2. Seriously, anything that calls itself a "Fighter" is going to be good at fighting. Except that every class in D&D should be good at fighting and there's this stupid idea that a fighter should only be good at fighting. Fighter, as the ...

They also can attest that this tends to make their fights relatively boring (compared to secondary characters, who tend to have more conceptually wide powersets) soon enough. And RPGs cannot discract their audience by the pretty to compensate for this. This seemed to be the more relevant part. Emph...

Disgaea 1 & 2, Makai Kingdom and Phantom Brave are on the PS2. Their newer games are coming out on the PS3.

I like it, although I'm wondering if adding another damage rating would be useful for stat up and stat down moves like swords dance and screech. Maybe adding another column starting with d12 at the high end and/or a d2 at lower end or something. Also, I'm probably forgetting something but how is the...

I've always liked the idea that it's possible for the PCs to gank the gods. You'd want your default pantheon with possible metaplot evolution, but having a built in mechanism where super bad asses regularly have the opportunity to become gods and ascend to the divine realms would be awesome. Somethi...

The issue really is arbitrarily changing the HP based on party power level. That's not something that you can really systemize. That's simply a person's own particular DM style. This is the heart of the matter right here. There can be no standard rubric for determining how much a character is optim...

And you still have to answer the question of "What do we do if someone with their death flag up dies for real?" with the answer "They die and stop playing for this session." Isn't this the norm for D&D until death becomes cheap anyway? So it's not any worse than D&D is n...

After all, why journey to the temple of the flame which holds the most sacred fire of Dislun which is a direct copy of the most primal of flames when you can get it simply by planeshifting to the elemental plane of fire and scooping some of that up? Easy, you don't. You journey to the temple of the...

I'd disregard Ueshiba because he's obviously a wizard since he gets access to dimension door and time stop. And it seems to me that this thread is about (sometimes) trying to reconcile irreconcilable differences. It's all like, "mang you got too much magic in my fighting." "nuh...

I'm not really seeing how having a wizard (with the dreaded teleport) would have changed the adventure and overall campaign you outlined. In the first case it looks to me like an adventure that could easily happen at level 2 or 3, and I cannot see it happening at or after level 9 when teleport actua...

Huh, I never realized but the stories surrounding him do mirror a leveling up progression pretty well. He's even got the training montages where he goes off to the mountains and gets some damage reduction.

The whole you now have somewhere between 30 and 150 zombies and/or skeletons is pretty nice for a seventh level spell. Also the ship's fear aura and immunities.

I was in the open beta for a bit and it's pretty much an acceptably pretty MMO where you do in fact get to change your jobs by changing your hats. Well, weapons, but that's close enough. I stopped playing because the software cursor was just too awful. Squeenix has apparently fixed it now, but the l...
