Tangent: OgreBattle, you mentioned the FF TCG--have you played it? I would really love to see some analysis of its play and design, because as an FF fan it really interests me but I have nobody to play it with and I would love to learn more about it.

I wonder if that's intended to represent game terminology that is context-specific--a weapon is "small" based on the size of the wielder, for example.

I can't believe I forgot a Type interaction/read the chart backwards and remembered Psychic as immune to Dark when it's the reverse. That Type was literally introduced as part of the G/S/C era's systematic nerfing of Psychic.

I'm not fully sure I understand the purpose of the three divisions you have. Body Slam and Comet Punch are Normal and therefore Elemental. Body Press and Brick Break are Fighting and therefore Aura. But from a "how do these things affect the environment" standpoint I'm not seeing why there...

Better solution: Place a stack of mines on the ground before you aggro him, then lure him into the appropriate spot and watch him explode.

On some level I feel like it's a mistake to engage with this at all, but, if you genuinely want to reproduce the feel of Wild Magic as presented in D&D, you need a giant table of random results. "Some die rolls get modified" is not adequate, you want a lookup table with like 50 or even...

Can someone explain roughly how the whole concept of "moves" in PbtA games actually works? Are you literally taking turns like you would in a combat situation where you're in "initiative time" in other games ("player one, it's your move," player chooses a move, rolls di...

Why not simply call them [X] Nodes, then, where the X is the type of mana they produce? Thinking Age of Wonders here. Then you can have "Structure" cards that are played like Enchant Nodes that do things. Edit: Also, if you haven't played it and want to see another game with this kind of s...

If you want people to feel time pressure, you literally have to apply time pressure, like a game of speed chess. Putting people on a 5 or 10 second turn clock will make everything feel frantic and rushed. Your resolution mechanic therefore must also be very quick.

Yeah, it turns out the second 4-drop my deck wanted so badly was Alice . You get a much stronger early game with neutral 1-4 drops than you do with the bat package and it's better than the stalling package I was running in the next iteration of the deck. Neutral Spawn 2 - Actress Feria x3 2 - Baphom...

My first version of a Spawn deck had Demon Keys and a few more 5-cost minions in it, but I think the fact is that if you're running both Baphomet and Bandersnatch you don't want to actually draw a Spawn, you want to tutor it, and playing a key on turn 3 or 4 is a troubling tempo loss up front even i...

Yeah, okay. I was debating whether or not it was truly win-more, but I think I agree that it isn't that great if you don't already have solid board control and that there are probably better finishers. Unfortunately I didn't unpack two of those, I unpacked two Sun Oracles, so I guess I either get a ...

Why is Sun Oracle Pasquale considered to be outclassed now for Earth Rune decks? Is it the amount of setup and the need to have a board or something g else? It's a terrible card to drop on turn 5 if you're behind, but it seems like it might turn a small lead into a big one.

D&D is not a good, robust simulator of human illnesses. "CON damage daily until you get better or die" is adequate. Feel free to apply harsher penalties than the CON loss does. Of note, "sepsis" isn't a specific type of infection, it's an umbrella term for a physiologic state...

It probably can be. However, it's not entirely clear how dispelling works. As written it's supposed to cancel out the effect of a sorcery that's in place, not counterspell sorcery as someone's casting it. I assume the intent is that you can't, say, dispel the damage boxes done by a Hand of Flame att...

It is a pretty quick playing game and there is a turn timer.

Also, it takes way more out of Hearthstone, design-wise, than MtG (there are no actions you can take to interrupt your opponent during their turn, for example).
