Tieflings probably want to have something more general than firewalker. Since the Great Wheel does have a frozen-over layer of hell (Stygia?) & places loaded with acid etc., elemental resistance could be justified. More ideas Warforged: Endurance of the Machine (boost): reuse a temporarily expen...

I guess it means you can do other things (like casting spells) while "holding the charge" for 1 round/level. Fairly pointless, but not quite no meaning.

The guy wouldn't listen to any criticism of his house rules because you could always change your character to fit them; the retraining was his defence, you see.

A starting character gets 10 points to divvy up between the four stats, with no more than 4 going to one stat. Like the Four Stat System, we can also have the "your lowest stat must be no lower than two points behind your highest stat" rule. Dunno where the 4 stat system is, or if this ha...

So long as you can still recognise the character post-retraining, yes. Otherwise it's time for a new character. Also - I admit I've only seen this once - if the GM is changing his house rules constantly to nerf anything he doesn't like, and uses the excuse that you can always redesign your character...

Warforged can be translated at the drop of a hat. War + Made; made for war. No problem. Yeah, I do object to the names Tiefling and Eladrin being dropped into the core races. They don't mean much to me and less to anyone who wasn't already familiar with D&D. Demonblood or something like that wou...

Warrior-mage works but it's clunky. I'd still use it in preference to Gish, or I'd use some similar thing like Spellknight, etc. My objection to Gish? You're moving D&D further into its own niche which is occupied only by experienced D&D players. The name doesn't exist in any non-D&D fic...

Edge is absurdly good IMO, especially if it refreshes as often as the book suggests. The higher the better as higher edge gives you both more uses and more effect on the most common use for magicians (I really want lots of hits on this spellcasting test, and I don't want to be limited by the force o...

Depending on your DM's interpretation, Ashbound may come with horrible RP requirements. It's supposed to the the special power of an anti-arcane magic, anti-non hunter/gatherer lifestyle terrorist sect.

I think the most stat-dependent class was actually the rogue. When your only real shtick is those % based skills, and you get bonuses from high dex, high dex is really important. High int for wizards was actually more important for the % chance of learning a spell than for some limits on casting spe...

Why not?

Past character level 3 or so, the difference in D&D is more like 'Now I can cast Fireball!' or 'Now I get 2 rays with Scorching Ray' or 'Now I can Teleport instead of just Dimension Door'.

Another 10' of range on Scorching Ray is just fiddly bookkeeping by comparison.

I think what the blog writer's saying is that the math in economic theory gets complicated if you assume that there's a noticeable chance people will take 100% certainty of $1M rather than a 50% probability of $2.1M. Therefore there's this gaping hole in standard economic theory which doesn't reflec...

Ideally all the classes need to be able to do stuff outside combat too. The obvious 'martial source' way is to be able to do stuff with pure skill - sounds like the rogue, doesn't it?

In other words, I'm agreeing that merging fighter and rogue sounds like the start of a fix in D&D 3.5e.

I too chose the one I thought sounded best, except I thought Asura sounded better. Also, I know a couple of guys to whom 4+ syllable worlds are anathema so Lokapala has a strike against it if I'm going to introduce them to aWoD.

4d6, keep 3 was pretty much standard to the point of being assumed in the 2e games I played - rolls in front of the GM and everything - but there was usually something else to ensure high stats, e.g. roll three sets of six stats, pick the one you like. Or maybe dump the rolls & reroll if it didn...

If you want everyone involved, making fighters the standard unit in space battles and larger fighting ships just carriers of fighters might work. Perhaps the larger vessels can't dodge and so die easily, and it's what your psychically bonded fighter craft does that matters. cf. Catherine Asaro's Sko...

So you're talking about decades now. The original argument is STOP BEING CRUEL TO ANIMALS RIGHT NOW! I'd like to think that at least some of the stuff I said got through so you changed some of the oppinion, but I know that's hardly the case. Probably, you're just changing goalposts as we go, right?...

Orca, the undisputed fact is that you would need more space. Much, much more space. I dispute this. There is certainly land which is most effectively used for some kinds of animal husbandry (e.g. NZ's hill country), but most agricultural land will produce much more food if used for horticulture. Al...

You don't need to get the correct proportions of every nutrient in every meal. In fact I'd wager you don't, right now - even if you're a total health-food nut, this requires an amount of information on what you're eating which I think is unfeasible. A good diet over time is quite possible for rich v...

Health wise, getting enough protein for the entire population would be basically impossible with plants, not to mention people allergic to nuts, which i frankly didn't even think about. Bollocks. Turning plant protein into meat is hugely inefficient, we could feed the planet a whole lot more easily...

I've heard that there are quite a few cultural influences on how people go nuts. The stories you believe can influence where you go when you go off the rails, in other words.
