Re: Minor game stuff from around the web for commentary...

Apparently Monte Cook thinks we're assholes. Was there someone who posted here who didn't think we're assholes? Why is it a surprise that someone else does? I'm and asshole, and im proud of it. If any of you really believe any of this stuff and think you can rationally defend it instead of just tal...

Eh, after reading this thread, I think I'm still deep in the DM burnout. just create your world on the side until you find players that want to play it. while you are having players go in and out just play one-shots. you get to play, you get to create your world/setting, nobody can destroy part of ...

5th Basic will ahve more 9th level spells than 7th or 8th level. . http://www.wizards.com/DnD/Article.aspx?x=dnd/4ll/20140630 . in order to give the cleric something to do other than heal, they gave the cleric some of the wizard spells and no longer offer them to the wizard. Races: The dwarf, elf, a...

Maybe there is a vocabulary but they talk in metaphor. "Temba, his arms open", "Shaka when the walls fell", "Picard and Dathon at El-Adrel". the magic lets you here this, but also understand the metaphor. Gives the DM a chance to play with new ideas and to give crazy na...

doesn't matter. wasting time on developing for some group that doesnt want the material is still wasted time. just let a world evolve around the game and then offer that with the blanks filled in to a group that actually cares about something other than playing Gauntlet with RPG rules.

(1) The settings I create are 1-time use only, and are created specifically for a particular campaign lets focus on this, one-time use is not a campaign. you should probably just back off form trying to create a setting and just work on loosely connected adventures and let the setting evolve as it ...

I'm absolutely certain that part of the reason that Planescape gets so much hate is the 'lexicon' that they tried to include Have no idea what that is but the whole concept of plane hopping is as sour a tatse as Ravenloft jsut going to the mists, and well the Manual of the planes tell s you pretty ...

yeah, yeah, magic because magic. but where is the fun in that. that is what the DM info dump is to just shortcut to the magic is magic. sometimes it is fun to figure out HOW in theory something could work and see if that could be used in practice.

Planescae is stupid because it is jsut the beginning of MMO nonsense. Star Ocean and Xenosaga about going around ONE universe to save it form another makes sense, but if you can just move between them, then why give a shit what happens to the one you came from? Also it is lazy genre shilling. trying...

I realize the game has to have elves and dwarves in order to have broad appeal. And I understand that the players at the table will take the piss out of all the fantasy tropes. But at least two people should be playing the setting straight: the GM, and the person writing and designing the game . If...

Hobgoblin The extra damage applies if their buddy is within 5 squares of you. 5 feet, not squares. it must be adjacent. a square is still 5 feet right, or did they change that? it is basically flanking that gives the extra damage, but you can be flanked by whatever is considered "ally" to...

WHY ACQUIRE AN IP AND THEN CHANGE BASICALLY ANYTHING PEOPLE LIKE ABOUT IT? Ask HASBRO and WotC that same question, ask Disney, Ask anyone in Hollywood. the answer is simple, you buy the name to advertise the name and then you can put any garbage you want under that attractive wrapping. these people...

Well, hobgoblins and ogres are common low level monsters meant as encounter fodder, so except for the whole lack of skills thing it's pathetically acceptable. I'd be more concerned about the preview of the Nothics. 1/2 level for a hobgoblin though? what the fuck do they consider to be higher level?...

in both case, that is easy. just put the average in a table for those ignorant people and let them look up what a quick number for 2d6 or 2d8+2 is. either way the range would be better to make something softer or harder if this is why you arent rolling dice. but then the players should get to do it ...

where in the hell do they get some of these numbers? are they trying to put the average, mean, mode, or some shit? HP 11 (2d8 +2) just put the fucking range 4~18 same with the "extra damage" 7 (2d6) do they do an extra 7 damage or 2d6, which is it? who in the hell came up with the idea to ...

shadzar: That kind of makes sense as I think animals might actually 'think' in terms of stimuli. However the caster shouldn't be able to get the 'exact' stimulus the animal experienced (that would be the domain of telepathy), but should still be able to recognize it if seen later (kind of like the ...

Correct me if I'm wrong here, You are wrong. RPGs have whatever the players want them to have. so if elves are in decline or even humans and someone wants to play that and the group agrees, then that is what happens. the RPG should just be a toolset to let you create the type of game you want to pl...

The page formatting is terrible too. The Nothic's entry runs into the second column, and the Ogre's runs off into the next page. This is 2014, not 2004 1984. yeah and it would have only taken then to actually put the text down there because it fits witht he image. guess they needed a way to make th...
