yep, which is why the online tools are so nice. they don't introduce anything you can't do without them, they just make it easier for a DM to do their job and that's a nice thing. You failed to address my point about the fact that without this tool, it's completely unworkable, which indicates that ...

Yes, which is about as useful as the creation system in the 3.x monster manual. They're apples and oranges exactly because the game falls apart if you even give monsters a different weapon in some instances, and same with giving monster stuff to players. And it's bullshit that you can't take magic p...

Well, perhaps DDI did do that, as I never used it. But using an online generator disproves your own point, because you require tools to make monsters; the books themselves don't provide rules for it. Having PCs and monsters be on different systems and then trying to balance them is apples and orange...

compare this to 4e where you choose a monster, or make your own, choose the level, choose the role, choose appropriately themed powers, and bam you're done in ten minutes with a creature that fits all your fluff needs and is much easier to balance against a party But there are no rules for picking ...

Furthermore, I don't see much practical utility in building pc's and monsters using the exact same rules...to me that's just tedium and pedantry. AD&D never did it that way, fewer complain about the lack of immersion in that version than in the current one. People don't complain about it as muc...

I would assume he thinks so for the reason he gave above: Kobold slingers' ammo presumably isn't made from their own by-products. I happen to (sort of) agree with you, and think that the logical conclusion is that there is an aftermarket for Thri-Kreen saliva. It's still much easier to not have tha...

Kobold slingers' ammo presumably isn't made from their own by-products.

Nice false dichotomy.

And both 2e and 3.x had books with rules for playing thri-kreen, so saying that their poison was an ability that no player could ever get under any circumstances is ridiculous.

also there certainly could be an enterprising kobold but like you mentioned giving the players exact copies of the items would be a bad idea; monsters are balanced to take on a party of players, who have far more abilities including save-granting ones, than monsters do. And that's exactly why makin...

A couple months back, I got a complete Sherlock Holmes set. All the novels, all the stories Arthur Conan Doyle ever wrote. Towards the end, it was a little amusing to see how many times Doyle tried to wrap things up only to come back and okay, "Okay, but this is THE LAST TIME" Reminds me ...

[ The other day the dude she was dating before she met me (and hasn't actually cut it off with) told her that he loved her and this wasn't a shock to her. So yeah, she's a heartbreaker. No, no. that just makes her Han Solo. Well, I suppose he was a heartbreaker, too. damn. Depends on whether or not...

MAGELLAN'S A LOT COOLER THAN JUSTIN BIEBER. Dude... Magellan said, "What?" and got hit by a spear {OK, YouTube, Magellan, Animaniacs, "Circumnavigation"}. It's a shame that people pick on Justin Bieber because he's popular. He's actually remarkably talented. Really, kids' idols ...

3rd edition got rid of racial level limits and ability score requirements for both races and classes, race requirements for classes, and XP penalties for changing alignments.

Are you really saying that getting rid of those actually reduced the number of things people could play?

I know that the horror that is the 1e DMG has been gone over in great detail.

Racial level limits.

Also, monsters made of arbitrarium.

These were worse in 1e than 2e, IIRC.

But they were still bad in 2e.

Kind of like THAC0, as Roy mentioned.

Well, characters have had sex in one game I played in, and one game I DMed. Actually, I was the one who did it in the one I played in. My character, a former thri-kreen leader turned vengeful, insane ghoul got cursed by the evil deity who was responsible for ruining his life, making him want to have...

I'm guessing because the class was originally a preview, and thus wasn't fully polished?

And I'm sure Denners more experienced than me can give better feedback, but it looks good to me.

I've played it. There are a lot of things that I dislike about it, but the real problem is that combat is incredibly boring and long. The other crap could just be house ruled for the most part, but having to rewrite the whole monster manual in order to just have fun fighting them makes a game pretty...

3.5 was broken as hell, but I enjoyed it way more than 4E. If they want to build a good 5E they're going to need to move away from 4E design philosophy, its too limited. You could break 4e too. To my knowledge, they only nerfed one of the 3 ridiculous level 30 character builds (that would be the Or...
