I just upgraded the operating system on my iphone from either 10.1 or 10.2 to 10.3 and I'm hating it. The change to logging in makes it much slower to log in, all the animations between screens make it appear as if it's slow and clumsy, they've changed the default news app from being a list of lots ...

Two things that jump out at me: Firstly, what is with the weird opening quotation marks below the text? Is that a German thing or is it the writer being up their own arse? Secondly, it doesn't say about any effect of rolling a 10, so at the moment it looks like a flat 50% chance per die. At that poi...

When you put your foot on the brakes and stop, and then start again, you burn more fuel, and that doesn't affect your energy efficiency measure of the engine, because you're putting that out to the drivetrain too, you just add the outputs together. Even though you would have burnt less fuel by not ...

Vin Diesel is the hero of the world's children, Donnie Yen is Venom Snake, Deepika and Kris Wu show up lookin' pretty and kicking ass, Cecil the Lion has a cameo, Tony Jaa can jump really damn high, lol Bisping can actually act. Woah, Tony Jaa has returned to sanity and is making films we're likely...

Anyway, moving on, does everyone remember that mini-scandal about an FBI agent offering to declare that an email did not contain classified information in exchange for some favors? The existence of that scandal immediately made me doubt all of the FBI's findings. See, the FBI made it sound like the...

I find a lot of predictions for a Brexit wildly optimistic- 'we'll be able to negotiate better deals because the UK has so much trade with countries in the EU', or 'the act of metaphorically pissing all over the efforts countries have spent in trying to join the EU won't piss countries off', or 'the...

The only way I can see any left wing groups calling for an exit is to say that the EU doesn't do enough to encourage workers rights, free movement and immigration, and instead actively hinders social equality and general wellbeing through things like forcing austerity. And so they would then say tha...

So I went to a debate on the Brexit referendum from a left wing perspective. Very left wing, so there was a lot of talk about worker solidarity and advertising an event called Marxism about lots of debates. One table in the corner was selling books on Trotsky, Marx etc. And there was a lot of talk a...

I was talking the other day with someone about how Al-Qaeda was funded by the US to start with, and it got me thinking- what examples are there of governments funding and supplying violent groups that have actually led to long term stability or even short term stability? I'm not a historian and only...

When it says The manifestation of powers by a psionic character is considered a psi-like ability is this saying: A: that when manifested, each power is considered a psi-like ability, or B: the ability to manifest powers is considered a psi-like ability? I know that having a Psionic class mean you're...

(How can such an obvious maniac have such broad support?) The way I look at it is that Trump is about a third insane bigotry and insulting detractors to get his name know, a third making up random bullshit so that it isn't obvious that he has no actual plan, and the most important third being on po...

Some of the reported bugs are... weird, I mean the red screen filter bug? Is there even a red screen effect IN the game? I know that one. The red screen effect is a debug notice. When debug is set they appear on every non-game breaking error, but the game continues on behind the red screen. Things ...

I just had the weirdest bug with XCOM 2. I had a specialist hack a sensor tower to get a squad bonus. +15 aim and crit for the whole squad. Immediately upon successfully hacking the bonus, the specialist dropped down dead. Seriously, what the fuck? How the fuck does that happen? EDIT: after loading ...

I still think that you should be able to give resistance groups orders- rebalance things so you can't recruit troops as standard, you get fewer random missions, and retaliation missions are much less frequent, but instead you can order resistance groups to: - put out propaganda- this lets you recrui...

Thanks for the quick guides to Long War. Sounds interesting, but probably more worth wikiing for now to look at the abilities. I'd pushed out of my mind just how shitty the stunlancers are. It would probably be okay if instead of killing, they instead always automatically stabilised you at 0hp, putt...

High system requirements are basically a cop out for a shorter cheaper development cycle. The shorter cheaper development time seems to be it. You can tell just from the cutscenes when you unlock a new area- they are all the same cutscene with the same animation of the same XCOM guy meeting the sam...

I haven't had it crash, but I have had weird artifacts between cutscenes, and sometimes if I load during a mission the AI dies. As in the enemies have no AI, do not react (except counterattacks), do not move, and the enemy turn is just 30 seconds to a minute of waiting before your turn starts again....

Anyone know any good shareable calendar/booking programs in which you can see the use of up to 12 items each in their own column? I'm currently trying to use Google Calendar to book 8 rooms out to people, as well as other random events, and it's a huge hassle trying to work out which ones are in use...

How reasonable would it be to compare bitcoin generation to a lottery? By making a copy of all the transactions you 'buy' a ticket in the lottery, and putting more processing power in gets you more tickets. You have groups that decide to all share if one of them wins. Because my understanding at the...

I guess it's because people generally see their gender as a more integral part of their personality than their fetishes. I mean, there are kinky things I like, but I can point at reasons I like them, whereas my gender is just who I am--even if I can point to the reasons I identify as genderqueer, t...

Sorry Prak, I went a bit overboard. I know that gender and sexual fetishes are different in that they can both be very deep basis of self-identity, can revolve around social constructs and relationships with others and can take a long time and a lot of self-honesty to work out what your gender/sexua...
