I'll take a couple stabs at these. 1) Remind me if I'm wrong, but Frank's houserule on Essence is just that Essence loss doesn't result in Magic loss until Essence < Magic right? We use that same houserule at our table, but I can't see how giving people the option to straight-up buy Essence wouldn't...

So once upon a time, the official Shadowrun website was shadowrun4.com. That's changed, and now it's something else: either shadowrun.com, or shadowruntabletop.com, or whatever. The point is, when you, as a company, change your website, the smart play is to continue to hold your old domain, and just...

Apparently 2012 me didn't have Dropbox or something. I don't even.
It's a bit ugly in places, and I'll try to clean it up someday if I have time, but if you're looking for a collection of the mechanics of alt.War, here's a PDF.

Frank's outline for patching LMSD damage back into SR4 can be found in the alt.War thread. Most of the weapons and armor from the core book and Arsenal are in there as well, and since SR5 largely copy/pasted those, it's not much trouble to convert anything that remains.

I know it's tried-and-true, rather than branching farther afield, but I for one love it every time Frank and AH do old Shadowrun material. Some of the more obvious candidates for review might be Arcology, Year of the Comet, and / or Cyberpirates. Honestly, while Year of the Comet is notably crazy, i...

At a super high level: SR1 to SR3 used variable TN (boo!) and proportional damage (yay!). SR2 is clearly a minor iteration on SR1. SR3 is a slightly more ambitious iteration on SR2. SR4 to SR5 used fixed TN (yay!) and nonproportional damage (boo!). SR5 is an iteration on SR4 where nearly all the cha...

Being online still doesn't make deckers much of a threat. Sure, you need a wireless connection to send commands to your murderbots, but a decker is only going to mess with one at a time, and you can selectively reboot drones on an individual basis, which is basically the rigger telling the decker &q...

Reload Mechanics
Just trying to query the Den hivemind here. Does anyone have any reload mechanics (as in: reload a firearm) that lands somewhere on the spectrum between "/handwave" and "count individual bullets?" I'm interested in mechanics that folks actually think are decent , although caution...

Stahlsteele, those the rules for _sorcery_ specifically. Conjuring and enchanting handle other parts of the magic system. So your inredulity may be a little misplaced. This. Shadowrun has always made a distinction between what magic can accomplish directly vs. indirectly. And while I'm not going to...

Ok, this is from memory, so hopefully I don't lead you down a wrong path. AGENTS AND TURING TESTS From what I recall, Agents were supposed to be relatively dumb. The problem with them from a conceptual standpoint wasn't their intelligence, it was the fact that they could be used to break the action ...

Comet of '63 was the whole SURGE debacle. They may have thrown a higher than normal rate of traditional goblinization into the mix as well, but the whole point of Surge was that it was extra weird, and so you got discount Ganesh and Groot instead of your more traditional metatypes. I could have swor...

If I recall, the premise of the Holtzman shields in Dune was not only that they caused nuclear explosions if struck by energy weapons, but they were effective against kinetic attacks in direct proportion to the velocity of the attack. So bullets largely went ping and swords and knives were the go-to...

Alright...time to find out if teenage me made the right choice by doubling down on Shadowrun instead of splitting birthday money between SR and ED. I know it's been alluded to in other posts, but if either or both of you would like to wax on about ED-horrors vs. SR-horrors and the disconnects therei...
