Oh, and somewhat pointless nitpicking - I know what you mean, but the way you're talking about suboptimal moves doesn't actually make sense. If you're using WoF, and the only move you have available is "Mediocre Attack", then that's still the optimal move, because the alternative is to do...

I've been trying to love DnD so hard, but it's getting to the point where I almost need to pretend a whole decade of DnD products never happened.

Actraiser campaign, hell yeah! XD

Similarly I've been wanting to run a Chrono Trigger based campaign.

Updated for 10+ new abilities for each combat class.

Included a wacky spell mastery idea for Black Mages, among some other interesting ideas.

I feel exactly the same way as you Dragonchild. For the game I'm making I was originally going to do completely away with stats and go with a suggestion like Frank gave of tiny random variables, just enough to notice but not throw everything off. Couple this with melding the duh bonuses into classes...

It's an interesting idea. I like the idea of a simple 3E-like RPG. One thing I noticed about your ability scores: you only have two possible arrays (3, 3, 3, or 2, 3, 4). It's not bad, but it seems sort of bland. I'm sort of iffy on the percent-based concealment rules. In 3E, %-based miss chances t...

3.x Saving throws I love them and hate them

I'm in the process of writing a dndish d20 game to be like epic6 but made from the d20 ground up and I've found saving throws to be rather vexing. Saving throws are fun, and they provide flavor to a category of things by changing the way they are interacted with. However the divisions that Fort, Ref...

Its like Epic6, but completely different!!

Plan is that I like E6's goal, but to really do it justice one really needs to just rewrite the game. Taking from Fantasy Heart Breaker, Frank's Really Abstract Locations, PL's Big Fat Squares, LP's 5E, separate combat and non combat skill sets, and so many other threads here has been inspiring. So ...

* The numbers have to start large enough that they can get smaller. Player characters can't really start in the AD&D "single hit die" crowd, because it is sometimes game mechanically relevant for there to be children or cats. Basically this means that a first level character who begin...

Makes stating faster if you mean you do something like rank the overarching categories.

It adds some complexity however as people who want to rank Heal care automatically about how handle animal, ride, and etc work underneath Culture, or all the Combat tag skills if ranking combat.

I've read the book. Most of the lenses are brainstorming launch points. Like any guide to something that's more of a spark it's not going to give you the answers. I find it useful though to go flip through some lense lists occasionally when stuck on a game design issue. I certainly found it worth th...
