Then you get back to LotR. Or even the real world. In the real world, there are tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, famine, war, disease, etc. Or are you saying that all struggle in a real world game setting is meaningless? The crazy thing is that to some extent you can win or at...

That's only the reality of Dnd because of the encounter/xp system. If you make one change in the xp rules, the entire problem disappears.
The encounter/experience system doesn't have anything to do with the fact that you're in a universe that will always be shitty no matter how much power you gain.

So, your opinion is that unless you are literally omnipotent, accomplishments in the game are meaningless. ... Very few people agree with this. It is meaningless if there are other omnipotent people out there who hate what you stand for and try to protect are still out there. Imagine how Lord of th...

But Australia's legislative system is nowhere near as fucked up as the United States' is.

Seriously. This thing is boned from out the gates.

From a biological standpoint, species don't tend to survive very long if they are out-competed by another species. So the fact that both bugbears and humans still exist, and have existed for ages, implies that both are successful in their own way. So, whatever combat bonuses bugbears have, humans m...

I'd vote Green (or Libertarian, if I still lived in Texas) if they made more of an effort to get elected at the local level. We'll start there and work our way up, not start with some ridiculously screwy top-down campaign where the Green candidate becomes President and THEN comes the lower-tier poli...

Given that Nazism is a matter of belief, rather than genetics, that ends with everyone being a Nazi and having magic powers. I'm not entirely sure what the analogy is for, or the relevance to this thread. I intentionally Godwinized to point out how we should be fucking thankful that social darwinis...

And because Moses parted the sea and God created life on earth, every fiction should involve some protagonists doing so? It's fucking Dungeons and Dragons . Magic has a degree of predictability in it insofar that it works according to observable laws and rules. However, the part where having magic completely wrecks stable society and hope for the future comes into play where the strongest magic--the city-destroying stuff, mind--is for the most part out ...

There's nothing shocking, revolutionary, or even novel about it (certainly, I've read about it before). There's the retarded concept that once science reigns and racial superiority's gone, people'll go all moral - ha, ha, ha!!! BTW, are we on the same page on "magic belongs in D&D" or...

Also, it's totally unnecessary. The gods are (barely) statable and if well played, are beyond the capabilities of any PC, unless you're abusing the rules like a complete munchkin. Now those are gods... the lady of Pain is a level of magnitude above the gods. Which means that any battle that involve...

Anyway, I think the trope sigma is talking about probably needs its own name, like "Doctor Watson." I say this because Holmes and Watson have that kind of relationship, except it's about brains instead of combat ability. Supposedly, alumni of the medical college Watson graduated from have...

Well I really doubt anyone is going to accomplish all that in a real game unless the DM just gives up, or you're playing ridiculously epic. And hell, if you killed the Lady of Pain, who is entirely statless, then your DM is basically letting you do whatever the hell you want. The victory was probab...

That being said, science doesn't raise people up. Science lessens the power of the individual and enslaves the masses. Now, I'm not a Luddite who wants to crush the machines and give up on antibiotics, but I recognize the fact that because the government has tanks and nukes it means that there neve...

We should be able to win D&D... by destroying D&D.

Okay, so, you crush the demon lords beneath your heel, you slay the entire pantheon of evil gods, you drain the Negative Energy Plane Shinra-style, and you turned the Lady of Pain and Cain into a pair of cute fuzzy slippers. That's the mega-ultimate goal of Dungeons and Dragons. And I still find thi...

Uh, yeah, D&D is full of said characters from both the players', GM's, and storytelling ends on both the hero and villain side of the fence who define the image of sociopath. You confront creatures who are not restrained by normal laws and can't be dealt with by society. Their only motivations a...

New hate-filled whisper campaign about Gov. Palin.

http://dailykos.com/story/2008/8/30/121 ... 486/580223

tl;dr version: highly circumstantial evidence points to Gov. Palin (R-Alaska) pretending to be the mother of her daughter's baby.

Scurrilous, I know, but I like to be on the cutting edge of hate and hypocrisy.

That is, until level 19 at least, but by then the fighter should have so many immediate/swift actions that he can probably outmanuever the barbarian anyway.

Raging is an immediate action, however, limited to once a round. If the Fighter foils it once a round, which will get easier as he goes up in levels, the Barbarian is completely fucked.

I'd say depends it on if the fighter's bag of tactical tricks and maneuverability can keep him away the fact that when the Barbarian hits him, it will HURT. Comes down to feats and equipment, I guess... Couldn't a fighter just keep foiling a barbarian's attempts to rage, vastly reducing their tacti...

The Republican Party does stand for small government; unfortunately it only does so at the local level. In my own town of Riverhead we are currently trying to do with less only to realize that in some ways we have been doing without in areas that we can't afford. (As in our town criminal judge does...
