Whenever the boards do a move from server to server, the session management can get sort of screwy. It should work itself out, but if it doesn't, I'll reset everyone's sessions in the database to get us back to a clean state.

So far only one page has finished loading with a time of just under 5 minutes, and the thread lists are fine, but it keeps loading, and loading, and.... Not actually a problem, but it does seem pretty stupid and might be a sign of something else going wrong. That is likely not the site's problem, b...

Interestingly, the server did get moved from one OS to another, but both servers were Windows. The previous server was WS08, the current is WS03. That means we went from IIS7 to IIS6, which may have caused some undesireable consequences.

Ok, so I've done a little digging to see if there is an obvious root cause for these problems. There isn't. I'll start a detailed code review this week/weekend to see if there are any leaking SQL connections (i.e. dirty programming). I'm thinking that there are some, or that the connections-per-page...

Are people still seeing the my_thread_global_end() errors? I checked in on the limits set by the server and we are allocated a max of 1000 concurrent connections. This seems like a pretty reasonable number, so I'm not too worried about it. As a side note, it appears that the application is using a c...

And now search should be back online. I had to move that part of the database separately. You folks sure do use a lot of bloody words. The search index was over a third of the total database.

I moved it

Just wanted to let everyone know that as the server's reliability has gone south for the spring, I've moved the den to another location. If you are seeing oddities in site, please hold off a day before complain too loudly because they may be DNS related. The search will also take some time to come b...

Thats some kind of crazy bizarro world hardware you're running. The failure should be the other way round. I know! It helped that all activity on the server basically ground to a halt when the intertubes failed, but still. It turns out the offending hardware was a power inverter that must have gone...

This error has been an intermittent problem on the boards for some time. It is just a random timeout because the SMTP service didn't respond quickly enough. Basically, the web server said, "Hi, I'd like to send this email. Please tell me when you are done," and then heard about the success...

I'm just glad it was only networking hardware, not the machine itself. Thankfully the box isn't registering too high on the utilization meter, so we should be safe through the rest of the week.

Hi y'all. I may have moderation privs on here, but I try to avoid using them most of the time. When my mailbox blows up with reports (I've received a LOT), I tend to need to take action though. I've nuked the offending image. I know that fbmf has received the emails, too, I just happened to press th...

Locking this thread. The personal attacks are all against the COC, and this is degenerate. Feel free to start the discussion back up and keep it on topic.

Thank you for the offer. I'm doing OK. I had spare parts lying around. I will be buying a beefy UPS to help keep this from happening in the future, but I don't see that as a cost that should be passed down just yet. Thank you, too, for being understanding. I wanted to provide the best service possib...

Server Outage

I thought it best that I take a minute and post about the server outage that Nifty and the Den have been suffering all day. The power went out some time very early this morning. While this is usually not a big deal, the hub the server is connected to was apparently worse for wear. As such, it failed...

Network Issues

Originally posted here: http://niftymessageboard.com/viewtopic.php?t=137020 I appear to have hit some serious gremlins over the past couple days. The culmination was over the past hour when the router between the server and the intertubes had a damn fit. It fell over, then reset itself, and finally...

There is no feature to make smilies stop displaying in the way you want, Crissa. The admins may be able to find a mod that does what you are asking for, but the settings you are referring to only apply to your posts, and only on a post-by-post basis. The options listing on the left side of the page ...

Ping received. I have updated the permissions on the server and verified that uploading avatar images works again.

Sorry I took so long, I have been pulling 16+ hour days and only today found the time to fix this.

<nod> Pulling entire umpteen-page threads is not adviseable. The HTML alone could top several megs for threads over 20 pages. I have seen a mod that allows setting the page size to a user defined number, but can't remember where I saw it.

No problem at all. I thought that there might be some hiccoughs with this. The good news is that the new server is really stable. With any lock, the FastCGI errors should be gone. :)

If you notice in those screen shots, you are visiting two different URLs. In the AOL browser, you are visiting http://tgdmb.com and in firefox it is http://www.tgdmb.com. I know the difference is subtle, but I found a problem in the DNS setup for both Nifty and TGD today and had to fix it. If you st...

That thread seems to be working fine for me. Try running "ipconfig /flushdns" from an elevated (if running Vista) command prompt. The DNS configurations for TGD and Nifty have been updated today and you may have stale data. Damn TTL was set to 24 hours :flames:

I have an open service ticket for the FastCGI issue. I'm leaning on the host as much as I can to get this resolved permanently. Please bear with me while I threaten them to the best of my ability. The same issue has been affecting Nifty off-and-on for the past 48 hours or so, so it's getting the att...

I have also installed a mod to make it harder for bots to register in the future. This should help make everything a little more manageable.

Please report all the bad crap that you see. We'll try to get on top of it all ASAP.

This board is using the same software as Nifty, yes? Is it easy to add the 'report post' mod that they have? Also: Hypnotherapy spam: http://tgdmb.com/viewtopic.php?t=48458 ...and the Porn spam previously mentioned: http://tgdmb.com/viewtopic.php?t=48456 Post reporting has been turned on. You can u...
